HFI line-pipe brochure

Keywords British Steel, Publication, Pipes

British Steel Tubes & Pipes has published a brochure outlining the benefits of HFI (high frequency induction) welded line-pipe for offshore applications. This free publication gives details of the product range from British Steel Tubes & Pipes 20". Hartlepool Pipe Mill.

According to British Steel, because of the accuracy of the manufacturing process HFI welded line-pipe can be specified up to 7.5 per cent thinner than seamless pipe and the excellent tolerances and good fit-up ensure that HFI lay rates are significantly faster. For contractors the key advantage of switching to HFI welded line-pipe is believed to be that there is a major cost saving.

"Our HFI development programme never stops", says David Houghton, technical manager, who adds that FM welded line-pipe can now be specified for service to NACE pH3. The HFI welded line pipe product is continually being improved and its range expanded.

"In 1990 we upgraded the pipe mill to produce thicknesses up to 16mm in grades up to X70 and thought we were doing well. Since then we have increased production volumes by a factor of three and today we make products that we used to dream about", explains Neil Scott, Manager of Production Operations at the 20". Hartlepool HFI Mill.

Through its specialist TSSL (Tubular Supply Services Limited) team British Steel is reportedly able to offer a total solution package by co-ordinating material procurement, pipe-in-pipe manufacture, bend and spool fabrication, anti-corrosion coating, qualification testing and delivery.
