Raychem are launching a cold-applied, re-usable system for watertight inline splice closure sealing of aerial, underground and direct buried splices in unpressurised copper telecom networks (Plate 3).
The Tool-less, Torchless Closure (T2C) from Raychem, which has undergone extensive trials with major telecom operators worldwide, claims outstanding performance combined with simple installation by utilising a versatile gel sealing system for the closure that allows easy re-entry and re-closure.
"This exciting new development in telecom splice closures has been tested over many months by France Telecom", says Les Britton, regional sales director. "The dome-ended version has also been a major factor in BT's recently-announced decision to award us a five-year, US$90 million, vendor managed contract."

Just a few sizes of the T2C closure cover a wide application range up to 300 spliced cable pairs. Multiple branching with up to six multipair cables is possible and cable configuration changes can be achieved with a minimum of extra accessories.
Installation is said to be simple, with no special tools required. Innovative cut-to-fix axial pull tapes provide mechanical cable retention and the closure comes with integrated mounting brackets for aerial installations. Once installed, the closure reportedly provides a robust construction with high mechanical strength.
