“MiniTec's aluminum profile, machine building systems has a new, intelligent and practical, fastening system that will reduce assembly time and cost.”

MiniTec have introduced a new frame fastener for its modular profile building system that extends the flexible building-block principle of the range and is faithful to the company slogan “... save time” (Plate 7).

Plate 7 MiniTec have introduced a new frame fastener

The one-piece Powerlock-N fastener is simply inserted into the T-slot of one profile and when correct alignment with the second profile is made, a quick twist of an Allen Key is all that is required to make a secure connection. This intelligent and practical interconnection technique requires no pre-drilling or other costly preparation, offering total flexibility for new assemblies and uncomplicated scalability for existing system modification as profiles may be easily removed and located at alternative positions if required.

As all MiniTec profiles share the same T-slot dimensions, just one size of the Powerlock-N fastener and fixing tool is required, keeping system design and inventory costs to a minimum as well as simplifying design and parts list generation.

The unobtrusive Powerlock-N fastener fits neatly inside the T-slot and allows panels and other components to be inserted in the groove whilst remaining hidden within the profile for a smart and attractive appearance.

The Powerlock-N comprises a pre- mounted M8 grub screw and a sliding nut arrangement in high quality steel for maximum corrosion resistance. All contact surfaces are finished with serrated edges to ensure maximum shifting resistance for a permanent and stable clamping. In comparison to other manufacturers profile systems where pre-drilling or slot machining is required, there is no weakening of the profile and the full load rating of 6,000N for each connection is achieved with the Powerlock-N connection (or fastening) system.

The comprehensive MiniTec range covers 35 cross-sectional profiles to match load characteristics and layout requirements for machine frame applications for bases, covers and guards for single machines or complete assembly lines. As well as the Powerlock- N and other frame fastening elements, the range includes complementary components such as links, hinges, handles, locks, feet, wheels, doors and conveyor components. A full range of linear and rotary automated positioning stages for single or multi axis configuration can also be integrated along with a long list of electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic components. The range also covers linear bearings, guides, motors and transmission elements for pick and place and automated handing applications. If required, MiniTec can also provide complete turn-key assembled solutions and the entire range is supported with tools and attachments to simplify assembly and further reduce costs.

Specifying components and system design is aided with MiniTec's online e- catalogue and integrated i-CAD software that allows customers to view, examine and download 2D or 3D CAD files for every single component in the range. MiniTec's i-CAD system is unique in the profile system industry, combining graphical displays of system components with itemised category lists and indexed sections for all products making a significant contribution design cost reduction. This time saving system allows designers to quickly download pre-aligned component CAD files with full dimensions and individual weights and integrate them into their own CAD systems. AutoCAD® and more than 50 other CAD formats are fully supported with full parts list generation to Word® and Excel®, enabling transfer to enterprise resource planning systems.

MiniTec estimate that costs for project planning, design, purchase scheduling, and assembly of profile- based machine-building systems can be as much as half the cost of the components and that using i-CAD in combination with other time saving tools such as the Powerlock-N fastening system will significantly reduce total cost of ownership for such systems.
