New connector simplifies Profibus diagnostics

A new Profibus diagnostic connector – which reduces installation, connection and troubleshooting time – has just been launched onto the European market (Plate 5).

Introduced by the industrial communication and connection specialist, Woodhead Connectivity, the new one-piece field attachable Brad Harrison diagnostic connectors are capable of performing comprehensive test functions that can speed implementation and troubleshooting in Profibus applications up to 12M baud.

Fully shielded for high noise immunity, the new diagnostic connectors include a built-in field switchable terminator, IDC connections for fast and reliable installation and a captive screw mechanism which involves no loose parts.

In addition, an LED display that pinpoints power, bus, device, and terminal errors simplifies Profibus network troubleshooting. An integrated port is also included to allow field diagnostic monitors, analysers, or laptops to be connected without bus disruption.

Said to be extremely easy to install by simply loosening one screw, lifting a transparent cable slot cover and inserting pre-stripped cables into a virtually foolproof colour coded dual cable entry guide – an operation which will normally take less than 2 min. Woodhead has even introduced a Profibus cable stripping tool available as an economical optional extra for the new connector.
