Automation specialist Festo has launched a new range of “in line” and standard compact high efficiency vacuum generator products designed for low air consumption. The new devices feature an exceptional array of configuration variants facilitated by unique Festo design concepts (see Plate 1).

Deploying the proven venturi principle, the new range of Festo vacuum generators comprises a few core modules supported by an extensive set of options for almost limitless configurations. Users can choose different nozzles and can select which ports are used for exhaust output and vacuum delivery to simplify mounting. In addition, the units feature very compact dimensions and exceptionally light weight, making them ideal for low moving mass applications.

The Festo “Plug and Work” concept is embodied in the new generator products. The range covers generators with or without silencers, with or without connections, with controlled or uncontrolled exhaust air in two basic design styles: inline and standard for the 90° vacuum connection. Optional integrated fittings, such as push-fit cartridge connectors, Quick Star® fittings, moulded barbed fittings, threaded connections and plug-on silencers add to the configuration matrix and help save cost and time by simplifying installation. All variants exhibit high product quality characteristics, simple maintenance and repair, and no moving parts to deliver a long service life.

There are two predominant types of generator: a high vacuum model capable of achieving very low pressures down to −0.85 bar (0.85 bar of vacuum); and a high suction capacity model for rapid evacuation down to pressures of −0.4 bar. In addition, the generators can be coupled with the recently- launched Festo range of end effector vacuum grippers for even more configuration options.
