An ultra-compact, high-power electronic screwdriver, suitable for clean room use, is now available from Townsend Coates. Offering many benefits, it is also the first product of its type m the industry which has both a push and trigger starting mechanism (Plate 8).

With an unloaded rotation speed of 1000rpm, and delivering an output torque of 0.2Nm -1.2Nm, the HIOS BL-5000 has a length of only 202mm and a weight of 360g. Because it is based on a brushless design, the product does not produce brush-dust, and it can be supplied with an ESD-specification which makes it suitable for clean room applications.

The first electronic screwdriver to offer two start methods (push and trigger), the BL-5000 features side-mounted torque adjustment which requires a hexagonal wrench, so that it cannot be accidentally altered. This also means that, unlike other products, it is not necessary to remove the screwdriver bit to adjust torque.

Extremely robust and reliable, the BL-5000 is suitable for use with screw sizes of between 2.0mm – 3.0mm, and is supplied with a power cord of length 1.5m.

A power supply, able to power all HIOS brushless screwdrivers is also available. Units designed for 100/127Vac or 200/240Vac input can be supplied, which deliver a (max.) output of 3IVdc. They are fully protected against wide voltage swings.
