Tecnomatix Technologies has received an order worth US$850,000 (almost £585,000) to supply French automotive manufacturer Renault with software and services for the manufacture of its next mid-range model. The initial order covers software and services to be delivered during the first six months of the car programme, which is expected to take several years.

Renault has been using Tecnomatix technology for over ten years, during which time Tecnomatix has consistently demonstrated its ability to provide robust process engineering products that help to improve production processes and reduce costs and time to market.

In placing the new order, Renault's management expects Tecnomatix's extensive product range and experience of manufacturing to make a major contribution to the success of its programme for the mid-range segment of the market. This segment represents a significant proportion of Renault's total vehicle sales and demonstrates Renault's high standard of style, value and quality.

The new products will be used for designing car body assembly processes, analysing product assemblies and manufacturing feasibility, and creating quality inspection programmes. In addition, Renault will use Tecnomatix software in the pre-planning phase, for conceptual design and optimisation of assembly lines including line balancing, logistics, and in-line delivery. Tecnomatix tools will facilitate collaborative design among suppliers and partners.

Tecnomatix Technologies is a world leader in e-manufacturing software. Its recently launched eMPower suite of products encompasses the company's full range of technology and broad-ranging experience, supporting the entire manufacturing process life-cycle from process planning and detailed engineering to plant operations.

"Renault's choice is a further expression of the confidence that world leaders in the automotive industry have in Tecnomatix software and its ability to improve their production processes", says Eric Gautier, Tecnomatix's European marketing director. "After many years during which it has used our software for the detailed design of work cells, we are particularly pleased that Renault is now to use our products early in its mid-range car programme – in the pre-planning phase. This will enable its engineers to plan and evaluate different alternatives up front and thus make more reliable decisions."
