The award-winning ThrustTube® tubular linear motor (see Plate 8) has passed the class 1 cleanroom compliance tests, carried out by the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany. In accordance with US Federal Standard 209E, the standard ThrustTube module meets the most stringent cleanroom requirements at transfer speeds of up to 0.1m/s, or 250 inches/minute. This classification provides overwhelming evidence that Linear Drives Ltd's (LDL's) patented drive system is highly suitable for all applications using cleanroom environments such as semiconductor manufacturing.

LDL is now putting plans in motion to ensure that ThrustTube can be used at even higher speeds. The standard module will be modified to use a special bearing rail and cable management system to eliminate particles that compromise the cleanliness of a class 1 cleanroom at speeds exceeding 0.1m/s.
The standard ThrustTube is available as a plug-in-and-go module, incorporating a ThrustTube linear motor, precision bearing rail and linear encoder, on a four week lead time. Being electrically identical to rotary servo motors, it is compatible with industry standard servo drives. With armature coils that completely encircle the stator magnets, optimum use of stored energy is guaranteed: all of the coils cut all of the flux, producing direct linear thrust. Also, with no precision air gaps or precision alignment necessary, ThurstTube is quick and easy to install.
