Latest from Leader Grippers, Chertsey, is a family of air-powered linear actuators for applications with industrial robots, pick-and-place machines and similar automated assembly equipment (see Plate 7).

Manufactured in Germany by precision workholders, Sommer Automatic, the model line-up embraces some 50 different variants.

Across the product family, forward and reverse forces range from 80N to 900N at six bar, while maximum loads vary from 5N up to 300N.

Designed for long-term reliability, models are ruggedly constructed square and rectangular arrangements. They feature a long piston stroke and all include base plates to provide simple mounting, an anti-rotation device and an integral positional sensor.

Design styles include ultra compact versions and double or triple guided types, many with straight through hollow piston rods.

Among the options available from Leader Grippers for its linear actuators are a comprehensive series of special higher capacity stop dampers, impact dampers, adapter plates and protective bellows.
