Pirelli chooses Schenck RoTec for balancing Jaguar wheel and tyre assemblies
Keywords Automotive, Assembly
Schenck RoTec is installing a new fully automated, wheel and tyre balancing line at Pirelli's Burton-on-Trent manufacturing plant (Plate 13). The system will be used to provide Jaguar Cars with just-in-time delivery of over 40 different combinations of complete wheel and tyre assemblies. Pirelli will be shipping some 600,000 units a year for production of a range of Jaguar cars including the X200, X100 and X300 models.

All Pirelli tyres and wheels will be balanced and quality tested using the Schenck RoTec equipment. Computer aided balance measuring is followed by the fitting of correction weights to the rim. This can be in one of three ways, either by two piece weight and clip, or adhesive weights or in some special cases hidden adhesive weights. The finished wheel and tyre assemblies are given a 100 per cent audit quality assurance check.
Schenck RoTec has established a strong reputation in this very specialist field", explains Andrew Kearton, of Pirelli. "This new system gives us the quality and flexibility to deliver the strict balance tolerances demanded for Jaguar cars on a just in time basis."
Schenck RoTec has been at the forefront of balancing technology in the automotive industry since the company introduced its first balancing machine in 1915. The company offers a range of advanced standard balancing systems as well as specially engineered, customised solutions for a wide range of production and maintenance applications.
