Tecnomatix builds on its success in Europe

Keywords CAD, Tecnomatix

Tecnomatix Technologies Limited, the computer-aided design (CAPE) specialist has achieved a year-over-year growth of 50 percent in its European business during 1998. The company's continuing advance in this sector reflects the view that the CAPE market - supplying the tools used in the preparation of products for manufacturing - is expected to grow at twice the rate of the overall CAD/CAM market.

The company's overall results published for 1998 show a 16 percent increase in revenues - $68,334,000 for 1998, compared to $59,041,000 in 1997 with gross profit increasing by 13 per cent to $59,238,000.

Commenting on the success in Europe, Albert Ifrah, general manager for the region, said, "We are pleased with our continued progress and are winning business across all product lines. In particular we have been successful in developing new industry sectors such as in electronics and heavy equipment. We have also been able to expand our interests within automotive and aerospace supplier industries".

Sales to customers in Europe included Alcatel, Bose, Chantier de l'Atlantique, Ericsson, Intel, MAN, and Visteon. The company secured a major order from the European Airbus consortium in association with Parametric Technology Consortium.

It also continued to record repeat sales to major automotive accounts including Fiat, Honda, Peugeot, BMW and Rover. Since the beginning of 1998, Rover has increased its use of CAPE products throughout the Group from six to 43 seats.

Tecnomatix is also growing by strategic acquisitions. In December, the company purchased the Munich-based AnySim company, providing access to advanced human simulation technology as well as additional NT-based CAPE solutions.

Enterprise manufacturing engineering

In addition to expanding its product range and industry coverage, Tecnomatix Technologies has restructured its CAPE offering with the introduction of process model platform and its process planning software, the world's first desktop for extended enterprise manufacturing engineering activities. Within just one year, this development has progressed to a commercially available product and the first licenses are now in production at two leading companies in Europe.

Tecnomatix process model provides a uniform and robust software platform that is customised specifically for manufacturing planning activities. As an open platform it will serve as a foundation, allowing manufacturers to share engineering and product data management resources across the extended enterprise.

The process planner desktop is the first of a large suite of vertical software products that Tecnomatix plans to release on the process model platform during 1999.
