Rockwell Software introduces new real-time data transport package for use over the Internet

Rockwell Software has introduced RSPortal, an open intranet/Internet solution for transporting secure real time automation data over TCP/IP networks. RSPortal bridges the gap between existing plant floor applications and data anywhere in the world.

RSPortal is a client/server application that transports plant floor information over the intranet or Internet for viewing live data in remote plant locations or on the office desktop. The package can be used to receive and view live data from single or multiple locations throughout a plant. RSPortal Server provides remote connections to any DDE server, and supports two-way communications for all clients and servers. RSPortal allows data to be accessible form Rockwell Software products, to Microsoft products and beyond. The PLC data previously limited to NetDDE communications can now go outside its NetDDE realm and into the TCP/IP, intranet/Internet world. This opens up new opportunities, increases productivity and offers a means of sending secure, high-speed data over the intranet/Internet.

"RSPortal breaks the barriers that have restricted open industrial communications", says Chris Haines, Rockwell Software business unit manager. With RSPortal, customers won't be forced to choose from proprietary solutions or less robust systems. RSPortal preserves the investment of DDE servers at local levels, while providing open, worldwide connectivity using industrial standard TCP/IP protocols."
