Paraguay opposition woes point to Colorado continuity

His victory strengthens the power of former President Horacio Cartes (2013-18), who bankrolls Honor Colorado, over the Colorado Party, which has dominated Paraguayan politics since 1946. However, the party internal elections were a major defeat for President Mario Abdo Benitez, who also lost the election for party president to Cartes.
