Significance

Poland's response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine has improved Warsaw's standing in the EU. However, the war's economic impact has been severe. In the Balkans, all countries except Serbia and Bosnia-Hercegovina have stood clearly against Russia's aggression and implemented sanctions, but membership aspirants are unlikely to profit from the war's putting EU enlargement back on the agenda.
