Vietnam’s Trong is unlikely to serve full third term
Thursday, June 9, 2022
Significance
At its 13th National Congress in January-February 2021, the CPV elected Trong to serve a third term as party leader. Trong continues to oversee a campaign against corruption in various party and state institutions.
Impacts
- Vuong Dinh Hue, currently chair of the National Assembly, is probably the favourite to succeed Trong.
- The financial sector will likely be a key focus of the anti-corruption campaign.
- CPV infighting should not affect government stability.
