Significance

On April 25, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) cancelled the last two live televised presidential debates it had organised because of scheduling difficulties arising from problems with its former production partner. The front runner for the presidency, with a commanding lead in opinion polls, is Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos.

Impacts

Rodrigo Duterte’s daughter Sara, Bongbong Marcos’s running mate, will very likely win the vice-presidential election.
The Duterte family will continue to dominate politics in the southern island of Mindanao.
