Domestic repression will add to Turks’ economic woes
Monday, April 11, 2022
Significance
The National Intelligence Organisation (MIT) has evolved in particular, from an intelligence-collecting agency into an active, interventionist and effective force capable of staging covert and overt operations at home and abroad.
Impacts
- MIT sees new threats in hypersonic missiles, cyber attacks, space and virtual reality in addition to far-right radicalism.
- It will continue playing a major role in Turkey’s militarised foreign policy as long as the current government is in place.
- The Presidency’s 2022 investment programme includes another increase in the resources allocated for intelligence, security and prisons.
