Delhi will proceed cautiously with Lakshadweep plans

A handful of draft regulations are designed to pave the way for its modernisation plans. These have prompted demonstrations from locals determined to preserve their centuries-old way of life.


  • Seafood exports from Lakshadweep, which recently started shipping tuna to Japan, will rise gradually.
  • India will promote deep sea mining of metals such as cobalt, copper and nickel around the islands.
  • Delhi will look to offshore wind and solar energy development in the Arabian Sea to help meet growing power demand.
