South African auto plans faces new pandemic realities
Thursday, April 8, 2021
Significance
Preparations were disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic and the start has been postponed until July 1.
Impacts
- For the overall SAAM to work, the government will have to improve national transport infrastructure, notably ports and railways.
- South Africa already dominates the sub-region and will likely be a fulcrum of planned new regional, interlinked motor industries.
- Major growth plans for new African vehicle sales would also benefit South Africa in terms of provision of expertise and training.
