Trump has promised a new peace plan for Israel and the Palestinians, knowing too that this is an issue with resonance among US voters.

It will not be practicable to advance a peace plan until Israel has formed a new government.
The administration’s pro-Israel positions will make it harder for any plan to be presented as balanced.
Gulf Arab states would be wary of supporting a plan likely to be unpopular with their publics.
