This issue has six papers covering wide area of energy sector management – electricity generation and consumption, renewable energy and oil and gas. Sudhir Kumar Singh and Vijay Kumar Bajpai in their article entitled “Estimation of operational efficiency and its determinants using DEA: the case of Indian coal-fired power plants” benchmark the performance of Indian coal fired plants with respect to various criteria using DEA and suggest improvement measures. Achraf Ghorbel and Younes Boujelbene estimates the volatility persistence on crude oil, US, GCC and BRIC stock markets and investigates the volatility spill over and the dynamic conditional correlation between crude oil, US stock index and stock indices of GCC and BRIC countries. The paper entitled “What causes increase in gas prices: the case of Ukraine” by Anatoliy G. Goncharuk tests the hypothesis on increasing the efficiency of gas distribution companies in the period of high gas prices for Ukraine. “Rationality of supplier switching in retail electricity markets” is studied by Salla Annala, Satu Viljainen and Jussi Tuunanen. They demonstrate the rationality of residential electricity customers’ decision-making based on their behaviour in liberalized electricity markets. Shiv Lal, S.C. Kaushik and P.K. Bhargava in their case study entitled “A case study on solar chimney-assisted ventilation for residential building in India” have shown the efficiency of ventilation and space conditioning. Guendalina Capece, Francesca Di Pillo and Nathan Levialdi analyse the performance of natural gas retail companies after the liberalization of the sector.
