International Conference on Environment & Energy (ICEE 2013)

Colombo, Sri Lanka, 16-17 December 2013

ICEE 2013 is the premier forum for the presentation of new advances and research results in the fields of environment and energy systems. The conference welcomes academics, practitioners, and PhD students. Participants may organize sessions, present papers, participate in poster sessions, chair sessions, discuss papers, participate in roundtable discussions, or simply observe. The conference also welcomes papers and posters submitted by graduate students. This conference provides opportunities for the delegates to exchange new ideas and application experiences face to face, to establish business or research relations and to find global partners for future collaboration.

International Conferences on Geological, Geographical, Aerospaces and Earth Sciences (AeroEarth 2013)

Jakarta, Indonesia, 23-24 December 2013

The earth provides resources and the exact conditions to make life possible. However, with the advent of technology and industrialization, the earth’s resources are being pushed to the brink of depletion. Non-sustainable industrial practices are not only endangering the supply of the earth’s natural resources, but are also putting burden on life itself by bringing about pollution and climate change.

A major role of earth science scholars is to examine the delicate balance between the earth’s resources and the growing demands of industrialization. Through research and development, earth scientists have the power to preserve the planet’s different resource domains by providing expert opinion and information about the forces which make life possible on earth.

The conference has so far been an important event and has attracted many scientists, engineers and researchers from academia, government laboratories, and industry internationally. Further details can be seen at: http://www.aeroearth.org/

3rd International Conference on Climate Change and Humanity – ICCCH 2014

Melbourne, Australia, 4-5 January 2014

The primary goal of the conference is to promote research and developmental activities in climate change and humanity. Another goal is to promote scientific information interchange between researchers, developers, engineers, students, and practitioners working in Australia and abroad. The conference will be held every year to make it an ideal platform for people to share views and experiences in climate change and humanity and related areas.

Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Retrospect: Africa’s Development Beyond 2015 Conference

Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, 30 January-1 February 2014

The fact that most African countries will not be able to achieve most of the MDGs in 2015 causes serious concerns and raises a number of questions for both academics and development practitioners. While acknowledging the progressive nature of the MDGs and their integral role in mobilising resources to aid African countries, there remain concerns, for instance, about the arbitrary way of measuring progress towards the goals. Even where progress is being made, improvements are often not evenly shared. Women, the poorest of the poor, and those who live in rural areas tend to benefit less. It is therefore imperative to examine its impact on Africa’s development post-2015. Eventualities such as climate change, natural disasters, and above all, the global financial downturn were not factored into the promulgation of these goals. Yet, will they be ample scapegoats for the rather uneven gains of these ambitious targets? What potential alternatives could replace the unattained goals once the 2015 deadline is reached? Do African governments have the potential and political will to carry these goals through? With these questions in mind, the overall objectives of the conference are:

Assessing the current state of MDGs in the context of Africa.

Examining the successes, gaps and failures of the stated goals, including lessons learned.

Envisioning a post-2015 (and post-MDGs) development agenda for Africa.

2014 Climate Adaptation Futures

Fortaleza, Brazil, 12-16 May 2014

The 3rd Climate Adaptation Futures Conference will take place in Fortaleza, Brazil in 2014 and will be co-hosted by PROVIA and the Earth System Science Center of the National Institute for Space Studies (CCST-INPE). The conference will focus on adaptation to climate variability and change, with some emphasis on arid and semi-arid lands. The Third International Climate Change Adaptation Conference 2014 (Adaptation Futures 2014) will be the nexus between the research community and the users of climate change adaptation information at regional and global scale.

This conference follows the successful pioneer Climate Adaptation Futures Conference, co-hosted by Australia’s National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility and the CSIRO Climate Adaptation Flagship in Australia in 2010, and the Adaptation Futures 2012 International Conference on Climate Adaptation in Arizona in 2012. Inspired by these two conferences, the third conference will build on the community that comes together in Fortaleza and foster a connected, collaborative and creative international network of adaptation researchers, decision makers and interested citizens.

The conference will bring together researchers, policy makers, and practitioners from developed and developing countries to share insights into the challenges and opportunities that adaptation presents, and to share strategies for decision making from international to local scales.
