Abstract

Purpose

The paper aims to present an overview of China's Venture Capital Guiding Funds, a new policy initiative in support of the development of small‐ and medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs).

Design/methodology/approach

The paper provides an overview of China's Venture Capital Guiding Funds.

Findings

The Chinese Government endeavored to promote the development of SMEs with fiscal policies and has accomplished some achievements. As the Reform and Opening‐up Policy is undergoing further progress, fiscal policies are expected to play a more and more important role in the development of economy and the society as well as SMEs.

Originality/value

The paper illustrates the approaches that the Chinese Government has taken to improve the availability of equity financing to high‐growth SMEs.
