Abstract

This article draws on the experience of a benchmarking club for non‐profit providers of social care services, and identifies some lessons for others who are considering establishing or joining similar groups. The lack of readily available information about the performance of social care organisations has meant that the group has focused initially on constructing its own measures of good and bad performance. Emerging trends indicate that effective management of human resources can make or break an organisation. One of the key challenges of benchmarking between competitors is to share information without compromising competitive advantage.
