Abstract

Examines the success of Four Square, the divison of Mars Group which provides vending and office coffee machines for service in various location, in employing simultaneous engineering within its operation. Suggests the success of Four Square is due to dedication to reliability and customer service which includes running field support teams to provide maintenance and emergency back‐up. To improve their product, simultaneous engineering was used to consolidate skills of production, field workers, suppliers and designers, drawing on all experiences. Results indicated a reduction in parts was achieved, improving assembly and reliability, causing simultaneous engineering to become the norm within the company.
