Abstract

Purpose

To share the status of school libraries and the need for more intensive training for school librarians.

Design/methodology/approach

Provides a brief report on the seminar held in October 2005.Findings – Continuing education of teacher‐librarians is central to this goal of having more school libraries in Delta State, Nigeria.Practical implications – Reform and continuing education of teacher‐librarians is needed to establish a better standard among primary school libraries in Delta State, Nigeria.

Originality/value

Inordinately high value placed on the educational process of building school library/media centres to support the school curriculum.
