Abstract

Purpose

Introduces readers to the background and ways that the Internet is used and is developing with wider applications. Access issues are also discussed as well as legal implications.

Design/methodology/approach

Introduces social science theory and applications.

Findings

That no definitive approach is clear about the future applications for the Internet and that it is still a maturing technology.

Research limitations/implications

More research is required in all areas to see what the next decade of development will suggest.

Practical Implications

Tests the ubiquity of the Internet and suggests that many new applications are still to be pioneered.

Value

Forces reader to consider what has contributed to the success of the Internet, and now that it is in its adolescence, what the future may be.
