Abstract
Considers the maintenance of secure public workstations through the use of a network server which centralizes software maintenance. Presents the experience of the libraries of the University of Minnesota. Looks at the security of the boot process, the methods of central software maintenance and server independence. Concludes that the future upgrade may complicate matters but the underlying principles should prove useful.
