Managing change in school libraries
Abstract
Explores the development of a major library building, costing £2 million, at Oakham School, Rutland. Looks at the management of change for the facility to operate effectively and the library and information service set up to manage the building. Looks at the role of the first chartered librarian and considers issues such as policy, ethos, use, staffing, budget and evaluation. Outlines strategies used and concludes that library management, married to an understanding of educational principles and a vision of the development of a library service in schools, enriches school students′ development.
