Abstract
Purpose
Cryptocurrency has emerged as a significant component on the surface of the financial industry. With its growing popularity and blockchain as an underlying technology, cryptocurrency has the potential to disrupt the digital payments market. In light of this, this study aims to identify and empirically validate factors that influence the continuous intention of customers toward the adoption of cryptocurrency.
Design/methodology/approach
The study extends consumption value theory by incorporating additional variables – monetary value, perceived trust and perceived risk – to enhance the predictive power of the proposed model. The data were analyzed using the partial least square technique on the sample of 285 customers.
Findings
The results indicate that trust is the most significant factor to influence customers’ intention to use cryptocurrency, followed by conditional value, epistemic value, emotional value and monetary value. The authors also found the significant moderating effect of personal innovativeness on behavioral intention and actual usage of cryptocurrency.
Practical implications
The analysis of the study gives policymakers valuable information for the establishment of the regulatory framework that supports innovation while protecting the rights of the consumer.
Originality/value
The study embeds great theoretical and practical significance by generating a new technical thread that will facilitate multiple players to use their resources optimally.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this article is to clarify the social burden of Japan’s three major diseases including Long-term Care (LTC) burden.
Design/methodology/approach
A modification of the Cost of Illness (COI)—the Comprehensive-COI (C-COI) was utilized to estimate three major diseases: cancer, heart disease, and cerebrovascular diseases (CVD). The C-COI consists of five parts: medical direct cost, morbidity cost, mortality cost, formal LTC cost and informal LTC cost. The latter was calculated by two approaches: opportunity cost approach (OC) and replacement approach (RA), which assumed that informal caregivers were substituted by paid caregivers.
Findings
The C-COI of cancer, heart disease and CVD in 2017 amounted to 10.5 trillion JPY, 5.2 trillion JPY, and 6.7 trillion JPY, respectively (110 JPY= 1 US$). The mortality cost was preponderant for cancer (61 percent) and heart disease (47.9 percent); while the informal LTC cost was preponderant for CVD (27.5 percent). The informal LTC cost of the CVD in OC amounted to 1.8 trillion JPY; while the RA amounted to 3.0 trillion JPY.
Social implications
The LTC burden accounted for a significant proportion of the social burden of chronic diseases. The informal care was maintained by unsustainable structures such as the elderly providing care for the elderly. This result can affect health policy decisions.
Originality/value
The C-COI is more appropriate for estimating the social burden of chronic diseases including the LTC burden and can be calculated using governmental statistics.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to demonstrate how action learning can be practically applied to quality and safety challenges at a large academic medical health system and become fundamentally integrated with an institution’s broader approach to quality and safety.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors describe how the fundamental principles of action learning have been applied to advancing quality and safety in health care at a large academic medical institution. The authors provide an academic contextualization of action learning in health care and then transition to how this concept can be practically applied to quality and safety by providing detailing examples at the unit, cross-functional and executive levels.
Findings
The authors describe three unique approaches to applying action learning in the comprehensive unit-based safety program, clinical communities and the quality management infrastructure. These examples, individually, provide discrete ways to integrate action learning in the advancement of quality and safety. However, more importantly when combined, they represent how action learning can form the basis of a learning health system around quality and safety.
Originality/value
This study represents the broadest description of action learning applied to the quality and safety literature in health care and provides detailed examples of its use in a real-world context.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to use cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and computer-aided design/3D printing technology to design and fabricate a drill guide template for access cavity preparation of permanent molars, and conduct a preliminary evaluation of its effectiveness.
Design/methodology/approach
CBCT scans were performed on two permanent maxillary first molars extracted due to periodontitis. Based on the scans, guide templates of access cavities were designed. The angle of the guiding cylinders was determined based on the direction of the long axis of the tooth. A 3D resin printer with high resolution was used to print the guide templates. The printed guide templates were used by a dentist with specialized clinical experience to perform access cavity preparation in a dental simulator. Then the prepared access cavities were scanned again by CBCT, and scan data were compared to the design data.
Findings
The 3D printed drill guide template had a close fit with the extracted tooth fit. The access cavity prepared using the guide template enabled the removal of the pulp chamber roof, and formed a straight-line access. Points were selected for measurement at regularly spaced intervals of 0.5 mm along the side wall of the access cavity. The mean deviation between the actual access cavities of the two permanent maxillary first molars and the designed cavities was less than 0.1 mm, with a maximum deviation of about 0.5 mm, showing a good conformance between the actual cavity and the designed cavity.
Originality/value
A drill guide template was designed and fabricated by 3D printing technology, which easily guided burs to complete the access cavity preparation work forming an ideal cavity shape with satisfying accuracy, and thus may reduce the complications during pulp chamber entry.

Investigates the effect of alumni ownership of university insignia goods and related alumni contribution behavior. Two distinct measures of alumni contribution behavior‐willingness to give and actual contribution behavior‐were used in this study. Willingness to give is a measure of the desire or sentiment to contribute. Contributions are behavioral manifestations of that sentiment. The results of the study indicate the importance of alumni identification with the university both to alumni willingness to give and donor behavior and suggests that identification with the university results in ownership of university insignia goods. Discusses programmatic strategies to increase alumni contributions stemming from the findings of this study.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to provide a Year 1 account of a partnership between a university and rural school district focusing specifically on how the project has helped to bridge the theory to practice divide and strengthen university‐district ties.
Design/methodology/approach
A design‐based research paradigm was utilized to investigate how creating more authentic and contextually relevant university‐school partnerships and embedding leadership preparation in the context of practice may help build stronger bridges between theory and practice.
Findings
The findings highlight that holistic approaches to leadership preparation, developing relationships, coordinating meaningful professional development, realism in design and experiences, and introspection are all ways that cohort members, as well as other district personnel, have been able to build stronger bridges between theory and practice.
Practical implications
The findings can assist universities and districts in developing and supporting partnerships that contribute to relevant, practical, and meaningful leadership preparation.
Originality/value
The authors' analysis highlights that aspiring leadership students who do not engage in meaningful and contextually relevant activities will not be able to bridge the theory to practice gap when working in the actual leadership field. Authentic experiences provide realistic views and understandings of the requirements, challenges, and rewards of educational leadership positions.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to develop a workflow for 3D modeling and additive manufacturing (AM) of patient‐specific medical implants. The comprehensive workflow consists of four steps: medical imaging; 3D modelling; additive manufacturing; and clinical application. Implants are used to reconstruct bone damage or defects caused by trauma or disease. Traditionally, implants have been manually bent and shaped, either preoperatively or intraoperatively, with the help of anatomic solid models. The proposed workflow obviates the manual procedure and may result in more accurate and cost‐effective implants.
Design/methodology/approach
A patient‐specific implant was digitally designed to reconstruct a facial bone defect. Several test pieces were additive manufactured from stainless steel and titanium by direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) technology. An additive manufactured titanium EOS Titanium Ti64 ELI reconstruction plate was successfully implanted onto the patient's injured orbital wall.
Findings
This method enables exact fitting of implants to surrounding tissues. Creating implants before surgery improves accuracy, may reduce operation time and decrease patient morbidity, hence improving quality of surgery. By using AM methods it is possible to manufacture a volumetric net structure, which also allows cells and tissues to grow through it to and from surrounding tissues. The net is created from surface and its thickness and hole size are adjustable. The implant can be designed so that its mass is low and therefore sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures is reduced.
Originality/value
The paper describes a novel technique to create patient‐specific reconstruction implants for facial bony defects.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to measure the absolute impact of corporate citizenship actions on the operable elements of the public image by developing an adequate and parsimonious instrument.
Design/methodology/approach
Both qualitative and quantitative approaches are used, where initially a literature review is systematized, then related statements are created, examined and confirmed. Altogether, 296 responses have been tested at discrete points, allowing for a temporal split-up of observations, where the first 148 forms have been used for exploratory factor analysis and the remaining 148 for confirmatory factor analysis.
Findings
The results of exploratory factor analysis revealed that the proposed instrument contains 13 items under three components: corporate citizenship and public affiliation; corporate citizenship and public allegiance; and corporate citizenship and public accomplishment. Subsequently, confirmatory factor analysis findings attest to the completeness, robustness and fitness of the same.
Research limitations/implications
This experiment would serve as an inducement that would bridge the theoretical and empirical gap between corporate citizenship and public image by imparting an extensive perspective.
Originality/value
Perhaps on account of the lack of an inclusive instrument, the holistic view of corporate citizenship has secured quite less empirical attention so far, particularly from the perception of that group of stakeholders who manifest wholeness. This study, thus by making a ground-breaking methodological endeavor with the conceptually established construct of public image, would abet in shaping a new class of “wholistic”, i.e. whole and holistic corporations.

Abstract
A recent President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology report predicts a shortfall of 1 million college graduates in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields in the United States over the next several years (2012). Recommendations to address this include diversifying the STEM workforce, which is plagued by a lack of gender diversity (Hill, Corbett, & St. Rose, 2010). University–School partnerships are crucial in developing a pipeline that moves interested primary and secondary students (aged 5-18) into majoring and eventually working in STEM fields. The lower involvement of women in STEM fields is multi-factorial and affects all communities, including Abilene, Texas. Abilene Independent School District’s STEM high school, the Academy for Technology, Engineering, and Science (ATEMS) consistently has a female student population at or below 35%. A local university, Abilene Christian University (ACU), has struggled to increase female undergraduate students in STEM fields. Creating a University–School partnership between ACU and ATEMS aided in building a STEM pipeline for girls in the Abilene community. In this chapter, we describe this collaboration between ACU and ATEMS and highlight the key features that led to success of the collaboration.

Abstract
The contribution explores the methodology, strategies and activities of inter-institutional partnership among university, school, territory initiated by the Degree Courses in Primary Education Sciences of the University of L’Aquila. It illustrates the experiences of an active partnership undertaken at the five-year, single-cycle Degree Course after the reform introduced in Italy by the law 249 of September 2010 aimed at encouraging local development in a national and international perspective (Bologna Process, 1999). These activities focus on the need to strengthen the cultural and professional profile of future teachers through curricular and extracurricular activities involving the use of cultural heritage goods, tangible and intangible, of the territory. The aim is to renew methodological approaches to ‘science teaching’ through the use of appropriate technologies that make it possible to realize the process of teaching-learning adequate to provide the multi-lettered of the XXI Century with sets of skills and knowledge more and more updated. The contribution focuses, in particular, on the project titled ‘Museum in … click! – Cognitive processes and new technologies applied to archaeological heritage in museums for cultural fruition qualitatively appreciable’. This project involved University, Superintendence of Archaeological Heritage (SAH) of Abruzzo and local schools in a partnership where teachers and students from schools of the territory were busy in direct training to build educational proposals and multimedia products for their peers to improve the quality of use of cultural goods involved. The project, funded by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism – Ministero dei Beni e delle Attività Culturali e del Turismo (MIBACT), provides a good example of practices within a partnership model that feeds a teaching system where the different skills of the stakeholders interact inside a common cultural area pursuing the same goals.
