Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to eliminate Part defects and enrich additive manufacturing of ceramics. Laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) experiments were carried to investigate the effects of laser parameters and selective oxidation of Titanium (mixed with TiO2) on the microstructure, surface quality and melting state of Titania. The causes of several L-PBF parts defects were thoroughly analyzed.

Design/methodology/approach

Laser power and scanning speed were varied within a specific range (50–125 W and 170–200 mm/s, respectively). Furthermore, varying loads of Ti (1%, 3%, 5% and 15%) were mixed with TiO2, which was selectively oxidized with laser beam in the presence of oxygen environment.

Findings

Part defects such as cracks, pores and uneven grains growth were widely reduced in TiO2 L-PBF specimens. Increasing the laser power and decreasing the scanning speed shown significant improvements in the surface morphology of TiO2 ceramics. The amount of Ti material was fully melted and simultaneously changed into TiO2 by the application of the laser beam. The selective oxidation of Ti material also improved the melting condition, microstructure and surface quality of the specimens.

Originality/value

TiO2 ceramic specimens were produced through L-PBF process. Increasing the laser power and decreasing the scanning speed is an effective way to sufficiently melt the powders and reduce parts defects. Selective oxidation of Ti by a high power laser beam approach was used to improve the manufacturability of TiO2 specimens.

Abstract

Purpose

The study aims to understand the relationship between facilitating, demoting, motivating factors and visit intention; and to clarify the role of death anxiety before visiting a dark exhibition.

Design/methodology/approach

Partial least squares structural equation modeling was adopted to analyze data from 426 potential visitors to the Capuchin Crypt in Rome (Italy).

Findings

Results demonstrate that dark fascination, prestige, reflection on death and mortality and interpersonal facilitators are the main drivers of visit intention, and structural constraints are the main demoting factors. Contrary to expectations, intrapersonal constraints have a positive influence on motivators and indirectly on visit intention, and death anxiety has mixed results.

Research limitations/implications

Data collection from only one dark exhibition requires that the generalization of the results must be done with care.

Practical implications

Conclusions enabled a better understanding of pre-trip tourist behavior, providing valuable suggestions for the communication strategy of Destination Management Organizations (DMOs) and site managers.

Originality/value

The study adopts a consolidated and empirical approach to studying facilitators, motivators, constraints and visit intention, as well as the effect of death anxiety. To the best of the author’s knowledge, this is the first study to develop a comprehensive investigation of these four constructs, whether at the darker or the lighter end of the dark tourism spectrum. Consequently, it offers a better understanding of lighter dark attractions, which allows DMOs and others to improve the communication of their tourism products.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the two-dimensional stagnation-point flow, heat and mass transfer of an incompressible upper-convected Oldroyd-B MHD nanofluid over a stretching surface with convective heat transfer boundary condition in the presence of thermal radiation, Brownian motion, thermophoresis and chemical reaction. The process of heat and mass transfer based on Cattaneo–Christov double-diffusion model is studied, which can characterize the features of thermal and concentration relaxations factors.

Design/methodology/approach

The governing equations are developed and similarly transformed into a set of ordinary differential equations, which are solved by a newly approximate analytical method combining the double-parameter transformation expansion method with the base function method (DPTEM-BF).

Findings

An interesting phenomenon can be found that all the velocity profiles first enhance up to a maximal value and then gradually drop to the value of the stagnation parameter, which indicates the viscoelastic memory characteristic of Oldroyd-B fluid. Moreover, it is revealed that the thickness of the thermal and mass boundary layer is increasing with larger values of thermal and concentration relaxation parameters, which indicates that Cattaneo–Christov double-diffusion model restricts the heat and mass transfer comparing with classical Fourier’s law and Fick’s law.

Originality/value

This paper focuses on stagnation-point flow, heat and mass transfer combining the constitutive relation of upper-convected Oldroyd-B fluid and Cattaneo–Christov double diffusion model.

Abstract

This study investigates the way in which acquisition-related human factors affect knowledge transfer in the context of Chinese cross-border M&A for strategic assets. The authors find that the process of knowledge transfer is reciprocal for revenue and cost synergies, including explicit and tacit knowledge. The establishment of joint ventures (JV) in China after the takeover boosts product-oriented knowledge transfer from overseas-acquired firms in mature markets to Chinese acquirers. The promotion of overseas synergies stimulates complementary knowledge transfer flow, which is reversely transferred from Chinese acquirers to overseas-acquired subsidiaries such as low-saving sourcing and new market applications. This study identifies three acquisition-related human factors that impact overseas knowledge senders for knowledge transfer. These human factors are implemented by Chinese strategic investors as new shareholders during the loosen integration phase. The first facilitator is all-round communication programs with top management involvement, aiming to build up constructive communication channels to boost knowledge transfer. The second facilitator is competence-based trust, which stimulates cooperation and application based on similar professional competence between Chinese acquirers and their overseas-acquired subsidiaries. The impeder is a high turnover of key skilled workers at Chinese acquirers to undermine the effectiveness of knowledge transfer.

Purpose: Blockchain technology has exploded in popularity in the social economy over the years. Because blockchain technology offers so many advantages, it was first employed for Bitcoin transactions. The interaction between blockchain technology and financial industries will grow more personal and interwoven with the introduction of Bitcoin. As the value of blockchain technology became evident, more financial companies began to test its use in monetary operations. Numerous financial companies have been experimenting with blockchain technology to reduce the transactional costs and to improve the efficiency of operations, specifically in the domain of financial notes, cross-border payments, and asset-backed securitisation. Blockchain will have a broad range of applications in the financial industry shortly.

Methodology: Through financial tools and methods, trust may result in successful businesses. In the long term, blockchain technology is generally a significant source of the finance industry revolution. It allows you to create immutable transaction histories available to everyone on the network. A blockchain system consists of a sequence of blocks connected by a connection to the block before each block. Each block comprises more than one transaction representing changes in the ownership of assets on the ledger. A consensus procedure is employed to add new blocks to the existing chain, in which members of the public blockchain confirm that transactions are accurate.

Findings: Blockchain technology is still in its infancy. The challenges of sustainability, privacy, secrecy, and latency, among others, have surfaced. Financial markets must get a deeper grasp of Blockchain to provide trustworthy alternatives.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to investigate the two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic flow and heat transfer of a fractional Maxwell nanofluid between inclined cylinders with variable thickness. Considering the cylindrical coordinate system, the constitutive relation of the fractional viscoelastic fluid and the fractional dual-phase-lag (DPL) heat conduction model, the boundary layer governing equations are first formulated and derived.

Design/methodology/approach

The newly developed finite difference scheme combined with the L1 algorithm is used to numerically solve nonlinear fractional differential equations. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the algorithm is verified by a numerical example.

Findings

Based on numerical analysis, the effects of parameters on velocity and temperature are revealed. Specifically, the velocity decreases with the increase of the fractional derivative parameter α owing to memory characteristics. The temperature increase with the increase of fractional derivative parameter ß due to a decrease in thermal resistance. From a physical perspective, the phase lag of the heat flux vector and temperature gradients τq and τT exhibit opposite trends to the temperature. The ratio τT/τq plays an important role in controlling different heat conduction behaviors. Increasing the inclination angle θ, the types and volume fractions of nanoparticles Φ can increase velocity and temperature, respectively.

Originality/value

Fractional Maxwell nanofluid flows from a fixed-thickness pipe to an inclined variable-thickness pipe, and the fractional DPL heat conduction model based on materials is considered, which provides a basis for the safe and efficient transportation of high-viscosity and condensable fluids in industrial production.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to examine the empirical linkages among emotional experiences, national identity and behavioural intentions for red tourism in China.

Design/methodology/approach

Partial least squares structural equation modelling was applied to data from two rounds of surveys of 1,095 on-site visitors to Zunyi and Yan’an, two well-known red tourism cities in China.

Findings

Emotional experiences significantly affect national identity, with positive emotions significantly affecting national identity. Positive emotions also significantly influenced behavioural intentions, national identity positively influenced behavioural intentions and national pride mediated the relationship of “positive emotion → behavioural intentions”. In addition, previous experience played a moderating role in the relationship of “positive emotion → national pride”.

Originality/value

This research produced new insights on red tourism emotional experiences by clarifying its types, connotations and influences. It contributes to a better understanding of national identity antecedents and outcomes in red tourism. Findings revealed the significant role of red tourism in cultivating national identity and provide implications for academic research and practical development of red tourism.

Esta investigación examinó los vínculos empíricos entre las experiencias emocionales, la identidad nacional y las intenciones de comportamiento para del turismo rojo en China.

Diseño/metodología/enfoque

Se aplicó el análisis de ecuaciones estructurales basado en mínimos cuadrados parciales (PLS - SEM) a los datos recogidos mediante dos rondas de encuestas realizadasa 1.095 visitantes in situ en Zunyi y Yan'an, dos conocidas ciudades de turismo rojo de China.

Hallazgos

Las experiencias emocionales afectan significativamente a la identidad nacional, y las emociones positivas influyen significativamente en la identidad nacional. Las emociones positivas también influyeron significativamente en las intenciones de comportamiento; la identidad nacional influyó positivamente en las intenciones de comportamiento y el orgullo nacional medió la relación “emoción positiva → intenciones de comportamiento”. Además, la experiencia previa desempeñó un papel moderador en la relación “emoción positiva → orgullo nacional”.

Originalidad/valor

Esta investigación aportó nuevos hallazgos sobre las experiencias emocionales del turismo rojo al aclarar sus tipos, connotaciones e influencias. Contribuye a una mejor comprensión de los antecedentes y resultados de la identidad nacional en el turismo rojo. Los resultados de la investigación revelan el importante papel del turismo rojo en el cultivo de la identidad nacional y ofrecen implicaciones para la investigación académica y el desarrollo práctico del turismo rojo.

Abstract

Purpose

The research question is how home country corruption and nationalism may affect operations of BRIC multinational enterprises. BRIC composition permits a comparison of two authoritarian regimes and two constitutional democracies. Each BRIC features a different combination of corruption and nationalism. The chapter adds South Africa information for two limited reasons. First, from 2010 South Africa is a member of the BRIC summit process. South Africa is an important entry point to Africa, for BRIC multinationals and particularly for China. Second, concerning corruption and nationalism South Africa is analytically useful as a control context that helps illustrate but does not appear to change highly exploratory BRIC findings.

Methodology/approach

The chapter draws on limited literature and information concerning corruption and nationalism in BRICs to suggest tentative possibilities. Transparency International provides bribe payers index estimates for 28 large economies, with important multinational enterprises, and corruption perceptions index estimates including those 28 countries. These estimates include the four BRICs and South Africa. The available sources suggest some suggested findings about varying impacts of home country corruption and nationalism on operations of BRIC multinationals.

Findings

China and Russia are authoritarian regimes in transition from central planning-oriented communist regimes. They are global military powers, expanding influence in their respective regions. Brazil, India, and South Africa are constitutional democracies. India, a nuclear-armed military power, seeks a regional leadership role in South Asia. Brazil and South Africa are key countries economically in their regions. BRIC multinationals are positioned between home country and host country conditions. Chinese and Russian multinationals may reflect a stronger nationalistic tendency due to home country regimes and ownership structure.

Originality/value

The chapter is an original but highly exploratory inquiry into impacts of corruption and nationalism on BRIC multinationals. Extant BRIC literature tends to understudy effects of home country corruption and nationalism on managerial mindset and incentives in either commercial or state-owned enterprises.

Purpose

Organizational citizenship behaviors for the environment (OCBEs) represent a crucial element of environmental sustainability for a wide range of organizations. However, the leadership mechanisms underlying OCBEs are as yet unexplored, particularly regarding the delivering megaprojects. The paper aims to investigate how transformational leadership (TFL) and transactional leadership (TSL) styles shape the environmental commitment (EC) of subordinates, motivating OCBEs in megaprojects.

Design/methodology/approach

Partial least squares modeling and hierarchical regression were performed on data obtained from 140 experts who have been involved in megaprojects.

Findings

Both TFL and TSL styles are effective in motivating OCBEs, although the EC of subordinates partially mediates these relationships. The power distance (PD) orientation significantly moderates the relationship between TFL and OCBEs, with the relationship being more positive when the PD of subordinates is lower. Unexpectedly, a collectivist orientation (CO) was found to elevate the effect of TSL but weaken the effect of TFL.

Originality/value

The mixed and contradictory findings regarding TFL and TSL styles are reconciled in the current study by integrating the contextual factors of PD and CO. The findings of the study shed new light on “playing the cards right” when using the leadership practices, i.e. how leadership can be better leveraged to cultivate subordinates' OCBEs. They also provide targeted guidance for shaping contextual factors to increase the environmental sustainability of megaprojects.

Purpose

FOV splicing optical remote sensing instruments have a strict requirement for the focal length consistency of the lens. In conventional optical-mechanical structure design, each optical element is equally distributed with high accuracy and everyone must have a high machining and assembly accuracy. For optical remote sensors with a large number of optical elements, this design brings great difficulties to lens manufacture and alignment.

Design/methodology/approach

Taking the relay lens in an optical remote sensing instrument with the field of view splicing as an example, errors of the system are redistributed to optical elements. Two optical elements, which have the greatest influence on modulation transfer function (MTF) of the system are mounted with high accuracy centering and the other elements are fixed by gland ring with common machining accuracy. The reduction ratio consistency difference among lenses is compensated by adjusting the optical spacing between the two elements.

Findings

Based on optical system simulation analysis, the optimized structure can compensate for the difference of reduction ratio among lens by grinding the washer thickness in the range of ±0.37 mm. The test data for the image quality of the lens show that the MTF value declined 0.043 within ±0.4 mm of space change between two barrels. The results indicate that the reduction ratio can be corrected by adjusting the washer thickness and the image quality will not obviously decline.

Originality/value

This paper confirms that this work is original and has not been published elsewhere nor is it currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. In this paper, the optimum structural design of the reduction relay lens for the field of view stitching applications is reported. The method of adjusting washer thickness is applied to compensate for the reduction ratio consistency difference of lenses. The optimized structure also greatly reduces the difficulty of lenses manufacture, alignment and improves the efficiency of assembly.
