Abstract
Purpose
A bio-sensor has been developed in this study for the purpose of point-of-care diagnostics. Point-of-care-diagnostic is a type of diagnosis where the diagnostic centre, i.e. the diagnosis kit is made available at the location of the patient when the patient needs immediate action. In this process of diagnosis a compact, portable, integrated kit must be available which can diagnose the disease of the patient by testing various analytes.
Design/methodology/approach
Using a fully experimental methodology, a blood glucose sensor is made by conducting carbon interdigitated electrode (IDE) on a flexible substrate. IDEs are used to increase the effective capacitance of the structure, as well as the effective electroactive area of the sensor. Interdigitated structure permits two-electrode sticks with “each other” and “infuse” together. As a consequence, the distance between electrodes can be tuned to a much smaller value than traditional thin-film architectures. Narrowing the distance between electrodes allows for fast ion diffusion that offers better rate capability and efficiency in power density. The fabricated device exhibits a remarkable value of sensitivity in the order of 2.741 µA mM-1 cm−2.
Findings
A highly sensitive, portable and inexpensive blood glucose sensor has been developed in this context.
Originality/value
This research study can be a scope for future research in the field of bio-sensors.

Abstract
The extent to which opposition movements engaged in contention are able to broaden the scope of their struggle has garnered the attention of scholars of ethnic conflict, social movements, and contentious politics alike. The ability to broaden the scope of contention is known as scale shift. It is of paramount importance in cases of ethnonationalist movements, given the nature of their claims and the oppressive and repressive sociopolitical setting in which they are often situated. Our study advances social movement theory by developing a more nuanced understanding of the process by analyzing rich historical evidence from a failed attempt of scale shift: the case of Israeli-Arab 1976 Land Day. Utilizing Tarrow and McAdam's (2003) model, we analyze scale shift and its constituent mechanisms of brokerage and diffusion as they operate across different political opportunity structures and encounter different levels and types of repression. Based on our findings, we modify the model by highlighting a set of intermediary mechanisms, namely individualization, segmentation, resource restriction, exclusion, co-optation, defection, and internalization/externalization. We argue that these intermediary mechanisms largely account for the failure of scale shift in the specific repressive settings of the Arab minority in Israel.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to report on metal‐oxide‐semiconductor (MOS) capacitor‐based O2 sensors with different catalytic metal electrode (Al or Pd), deposited on both smooth and porous surface (pore diameter ranging from 2.76 to 71.6 μm) of ZrO2 thin film.
Design/methodology/approach
The ZrO2 thin film has been prepared by RF sputtering and DC magnetron sputtering process followed by thermal oxidation process, whereas the electrodes were deposited on thin film by thermal evaporation. The sensors are exposed to O2 gas ambient at room temperature and the O2 sensing performance has been examined by surface characterizations and on‐line sensing electrical characterizations.
Findings
MOS capacitor O2 sensor with Pd electrode on porous ZrO2 thin film has the best sensitivity in term of both adsorption and desorption of gas. This sensor is proved to be operated in both capacitor and diode modes.
Originality/value
The paper demonstrates that room temperature MOS‐based O2 sensor operates in capacitor and diode mode conditions with focus on the effect of ZrO2 surface morphology on the sensing properties.

Abstract
Assessing learners with extensive support needs has traditionally been rooted in deficit perspectives, in which student incapacities are highlighted. We start this chapter with an overview of this historical view and identify its shortcomings. Next, we identify alternate assessment and progress monitoring as key efforts for shifting the lens from deficit-oriented assessment toward more grade-aligned, inclusive-, and strengths-based strategies. We also identify strategies for comprehensive assessment that can continue this shift in approach. Finally, we conclude with ideas for future directions in assessing learners with extensive support needs.

Abstract
Cobalt/gold hollow microspheres were successfully prepared through galvanic replacement in an organic solvent. The diameters of these hollow microspheres ranged from 800 nm to 1 μm. However, the surface of the hollow microsphere was very rough. Nanospikes of various lengths from about 40 to 100 nm were grown on the surface of these spheres. Initially, particles with "island-like" rough surfaces were found with the addition of 4 ml chloroauric acid (HAuCl4). When the volume of HAuCl4 increased from 4 to 5 ml, microspheres with a hollow structure were formed. Some broken microspheres were observed when HAuCl4 was further increased to 6 ml. X-ray diffraction results showed a high-intensity sharp peak of gold when the HAuCl4 in the sample increased. After the galvanic replacement reaction, the cobalt content in the sample decreased meanwhile the gold content increased. This can be seen from energy dispersive X-ray analysis spectroscopy and also evident from the thermo gravimetric analysis result. The hollow Au/Co microspheres showed two broad plasmonic peaks in the ultraviolet-visible measurement. The plasmonic peaks at longer wavelengths shifted to the near-infrared region with the addition of HAuCl4.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to introduce the top-level design ideas and the overall architecture of earthquake early-warning system for high speed railways in China, which is based on P-wave earthquake early-warning and multiple ways of rapid treatment.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper describes the key technologies that are involved in the development of the system, such as P-wave identification and earthquake early-warning, multi-source seismic information fusion and earthquake emergency treatment technologies. The paper also presents the test results of the system, which show that it has complete functions and its major performance indicators meet the design requirements.
Findings
The study demonstrates that the high speed railways earthquake early-warning system serves as an important technical tool for high speed railways to cope with the threat of earthquake to the operation safety. The key technical indicators of the system have excellent performance: The first report time of the P-wave is less than three seconds. From the first arrival of P-wave to the beginning of train braking, the total delay of onboard emergency treatment is 3.63 seconds under 95% probability. The average total delay for power failures triggered by substations is 3.3 seconds.
Originality/value
The paper provides a valuable reference for the research and development of earthquake early-warning system for high speed railways in other countries and regions. It also contributes to the earthquake prevention and disaster reduction efforts.

Abstract
Strengths-based coaching has emerged in past decades as an asset-based approach that can help individuals identify, harness, and leverage their strengths to achieve professional and personal goals. This paper shares the design and outcomes of a year-long strengths-based coaching program to support leadership development within the context of one university’s women’s leadership initiative.
Program outcomes and changes in participants’ perceived confidence in identifying and applying their strengths in different contexts were evaluated through an online survey using a Likert-based REDCap survey tool after participation in the program. Findings strongly suggest that most participants lacked the self-confidence and/or self-awareness to recognize their own strengths in a granular way prior to the program. Themes that emerged in the survey findings point to the following program outcomes: participants gained an increased ability to identify and value one’s own leadership strengths, an increased ability to recognize and value the strengths of others, and a supportive community of women leaders to share experiences and reflect on the application of their strengths as part of their leadership journey.
Further studies are needed to understand and measure how a program such as this can impact one’s leader identity, self-awareness, and self-confidence. Given the critical need for women’s leadership opportunities, this program shows promise as a means to strengthen women’s leadership across career stages and disciplines.
