Abstract

In this letter, based on the infinitesimal transformations with respect to the generalized coordinates and generalized momentums, we obtain the definition, determining equations and structure equation of the momentum‐dependent symmetry for the systems. This study directly leads to the non‐ Noether type conserved quantity for the systems. Further we also give the inverse issue of the momentum‐dependent symmetries of the systems. However, a theory of momentum‐dependent symmetries of the nonconservative Hamiltonian systems is established. Finally, an example is discussed to illustrate the results.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to evaluate the early effects of the pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and accompanying stay-at-home orders on restaurant demand in US counties.

Design/methodology/approach

The following two sets of daily restaurant demand data were collected for each US county: foot traffic data and card transaction data. A two-way fixed-effects panel data model was used to estimate daily restaurant demand from February 1 to April 30, 2020.

Findings

Results show that a 1% increase in daily new COVID-19 cases led to a 0.0556% decrease in daily restaurant demand, while stay-at-home orders were collectively associated with a 3.25% drop in demand. The extent of these declines varied across counties; ethnicity, political ideology, eat-in habits and restaurant diversity were found to moderate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and stay-at-home orders.

Practical implications

These results characterize the regional restaurant industry’s resilience to COVID-19 and identify particularly vulnerable areas that may require pubic policies and managerial strategies for intervention.

Originality/value

This study represents a pioneering attempt to investigate the economic impact of COVID-19 on restaurant businesses.

Abstract

Purpose

The simulation of the fluid–solid interaction (FSI) problem is important for both academic studies and engineering applications. However, the numerical approach for simulating the FSI problems is a great challenge owing to the large discrepancy of material properties and inconsistent description of grid motion between the fluid and solid domains. The difficulties will be further increased if there are multiple materials in the fluid region. In these complicated applications, interface reconstruction, multi-material advection and FSI must be all taken into account. This paper aims to present an effective integrated work of multi-material arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (MMALE) method, finite element (FE) method and the continuum analogy method to simulate the complex FSI problems involving multi-material flow. The coupled method is used to simulate the three-dimensional CONT test and the blast-plate interaction. The numerical results show good agreement with the benchmark and the experiment data, which indicates that the presented method is effective for solving the complicated FSI problems.

Design/methodology/approach

MMALE and FE methods are used to simulate fluid and solid regions, respectively. The interfacial nodes of fluid and solid are required to be coincident in the whole simulation so the interacted force can be easily and accurately calculated. To this end, the continuum analogy method is used in the rezoning phase.

Findings

The coupled method is used to simulate the three-dimensional CONT test and the blast-plate interaction. The numerical results show good agreement with the benchmark and the experiment data, which indicates that the presented method is effective for solving the complicated FSI problems.

Originality/value

To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first time that the ALE method, moment of fluid interface reconstruction method, continuum analogy method and the FE method are combined to solve complicated practical problems.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper mainly explores the relationship between digital inclusive finance and financing constraints of technological-based SMEs, and how digital inclusive finance affects the financing constraints of technology-based SMEs. This paper empirically analyzes the relationship between them through the OLS model, and then further verifies the relationship between them through robust regression and heterogeneity analysis. At the same time, it uses the mechanism test to explore how digital inclusive finance affects the financing constraints of technology-based SMEs. This paper aims to address these issues.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper aims to explain the relationship between digital inclusive finance and financing constraints of technological-based SMEs. Technology-based SMEs always face the difficult problem of “financing difficulty” and “financing expensive” in the development process, which hinders the survival and development of enterprises to some extent. Digital inclusive finance development policy vigorously promoted by the state has alleviated the financing constraints of technology-based SMEs and brought opportunities for their development.

Findings

The results show that the role of digital inclusive finance in alleviating the financing constraints of technology-based SMEs, and incremental supplement and alleviating information asymmetry are the main reasons for digital inclusive finance to alleviate the financing constraints of technology-based SMEs. In view of the availability of digital inclusive financial data, this paper only uses the data from 2014 to 2019.

Originality/value

The authors’ research clearly found that the development of digital inclusive finance alleviates the financing of technology-based SMEs from the two aspects of “incremental supplement” and alleviating information asymmetry, so as to provide corresponding reference basis for the government to formulate a series of plans to support the development of technology-based SMEs.

Abstract

Purpose

A critical step in influencer marketing is influencer outreach, where a brand reaches out to an influencer and forms a partnership. Yet little is known about how factors related to this process might influence the outcomes of sponsored posts. To address this gap, the authors investigated whether, how and when the order of influencers' product use and brand outreach (i.e. use/outreach order) affects post persuasiveness.

Design/methodology/approach

The authors conducted three experimental studies. Studies 1 and 2 examined the effect of disclosure type (use-first, outreach-later vs. outreach-first, use-later vs. no disclosure) on consumers' responses to the post. Study 3 investigated the moderating effects of compensation disclosure type.

Findings

The results revealed that when the influencer used the product before (vs. after) being contacted by the brand, consumers had more favorable attitudes about the product and greater purchase intention upon reading the sponsored posts; perceived information diagnosticity mediated this effect. However, this tendency was mitigated if the influencer disclosed the specific monetary payment from the brand.

Originality/value

This research advances understanding of sponsorship disclosure and provides a way to manage its impact on message persuasiveness.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to analyze the high temperature (200°C) corrosion behavior of 2205 duplex stainless steel in acidizing stimulation solution containing hydrochloric acid (HCl) and acetic acid.

Design/methodology/approach

The corrosion rate of 2205 duplex stainless steel in all kinds of acid solutions was calculated through immersion tests and electrochemical test. The corrosion product composition is analyzed by X-ray diffraction analysis. The element composition and element distribution before and after corrosion were analyzed by an X-ray energy spectrometer. The corrosion morphology of the steel surface was observed by a scanning electron microscope. Both static and dynamic corrosion experiments were carried out at 200°C.

Findings

The results show that 2205 duplex stainless steel has excellent corrosion resistance in low to high concentration acetic acid solutions, but increasing the concentration of Cl in acetic acid solution will accelerate the corrosion rate. Low concentration HCl solution can cause serious corrosion to 2205 duplex stainless steel. The system of HCl and acetic acid will produce a synergistic effect on corrosion of 2205 duplex stainless steel and accelerate the corrosion. Sb2O3 is a good corrosion inhibitor synergist for high-temperature acidizing stimulation solution.

Originality/value

The amount of HCl that is used in acidizing stimulation is usually determined by the dissolution effect of the acid on the rocks, but for ultra-high-temperature reservoirs, the amount of HCl should be based on reducing the corrosion of oil and gas wells.

Abstract

Purpose

One challenge for tourism recommendation systems (TRSs) is the long-tail phenomenon of ratings or popularity among tourist products. This paper aims to improve the diversity and efficiency of TRSs utilizing the power-law distribution of long-tail data.

Design/methodology/approach

Using Sina Weibo check-in data for example, this paper demonstrates that the long-tail phenomenon exists in user travel behaviors and fits the long-tail travel data with power-law distribution. To solve data sparsity in the long-tail part and increase recommendation diversity of TRSs, the paper proposes a collaborative filtering (CF) recommendation algorithm combining with power-law distribution. Furthermore, by combining power-law distribution with locality sensitive hashing (LSH), the paper optimizes user similarity calculation to improve the calculation efficiency of TRSs.

Findings

The comparison experiments show that the proposed algorithm greatly improves the recommendation diversity and calculation efficiency while maintaining high precision and recall of recommendation, providing basis for further dynamic recommendation.

Originality/value

TRSs provide a better solution to the problem of information overload in the tourism field. However, based on the historical travel data over the whole population, most current TRSs tend to recommend hot and similar spots to users, lacking in diversity and failing to provide personalized recommendations. Meanwhile, the large high-dimensional sparse data in online social networks (OSNs) brings huge computational cost when calculating user similarity with traditional CF algorithms. In this paper, by integrating the power-law distribution of travel data and tourism recommendation technology, the authors’ work solves the problem existing in traditional TRSs that recommendation results are overly narrow and lack in serendipity, and provides users with a wider range of choices and hence improves user experience in TRSs. Meanwhile, utilizing locality sensitive hash functions, the authors’ work hashes users from high-dimensional vectors to one-dimensional integers and maps similar users into the same buckets, which realizes fast nearest neighbors search in high-dimensional space and solves the extreme sparsity problem of high dimensional travel data. Furthermore, applying the hashing results to user similarity calculation, the paper greatly reduces computational complexity and improves calculation efficiency of TRSs, which reduces the system load and enables TRSs to provide effective and timely recommendations for users.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to describe and observe the influence of boundary slip associated with an arbitrary entrainment angle on the contact lubrication properties of ellipses.

Design/methodology/approach

Based on the modified Reynolds equation, the boundary slip of any angle is considered in the elliptic contact, and numerical simulation is carried out. In the above calculation, the progressive mesh densification method is used, which greatly reduces the computation time.

Findings

The results indicate that the variation of film thickness corresponding to different entrainment angles is distinct from those without considering boundary slip. In addition, boundary slip reduces the central film thickness and minimum film thickness, which makes the hydrodynamic pressure distribution smoother.

Originality/value

The present study focuses on the specific condition with the arbitrary direction of rolling and sliding velocity found in hypoid gears and worm, and some other components. The influence of boundary slip associated with arbitrary entrainment angle on the lubrication film thickness in elliptical contacts is first revealed, which improves a good understanding of elastohydrodynamic lubrication characteristics.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to discuss about evaluating the integrals involving B-spline wavelet on the interval (BSWI), in wavelet finite element formulations, using Gauss Quadrature.

Design/methodology/approach

In the proposed scheme, background cells are placed over each BSWI element and Gauss quadrature rule is defined for each of these cells. The nodal discretization used for BSWI WFEM element is independent to the selection of number of background cells used for the integration process. During the analysis, background cells of various lengths are used for evaluating the integrals for various combination of order and resolution of BSWI scaling functions. Numerical examples based on one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) plane elasto-statics are solved. Problems on beams based on Euler Bernoulli and Timoshenko beam theory under different boundary conditions are also examined. The condition number and sparseness of the formulated stiffness matrices are analyzed.

Findings

It is found that to form a well-conditioned stiffness matrix, the support domain of every wavelet scaling function should possess sufficient number of integration points. The results are analyzed and validated against the existing analytical solutions. Numerical examples demonstrate that the accuracy of displacements and stresses is dependent on the size of the background cell and number of Gauss points considered per background cell during the analysis.

Originality/value

The current paper gives the details on implementation of Gauss Quadrature scheme, using a background cell-based approach, for evaluating the integrals involved in BSWI-based wavelet finite element method, which is missing in the existing literature.
