Abstract

Purpose

This study is based on a web-based advertising value model, adding emotional appeal, advertising credibility, advertising clicks, product evaluation and incentive to examine the impact on consumers' product evaluation and purchase intention.

Design/methodology/approach

In total, 313 valid online questionnaires were collected from those who had browsed the social media advertisement.

Findings

The results show that advertising credibility and emotional appeal have a higher impact on advertising attitude than informativeness and irritation in the original web-based advertising value model.

Research limitations/implications

The findings strengthen the literature on the antecedents of advertising attitude in social media context, confirming advertising clicks as a predictor of product evaluation, and determining that advertising attitude, product evaluation and incentive play key roles as predictors of consumer purchase intention.

Practical implications

The findings are particularly relevant to advertising marketing managers. In the context of social media advertising, the advertising credibility of consumers is the key to increasing consumers' willingness to purchase. Advertisers must establish a good advertising reputation to consumers in the social media context.

Originality/value

This study combines the web-based advertising value model, advertising clicks, product evaluation and incentive to investigate the factors that influence customers' purchase decisions in the context of social media.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to establish a comprehensive model integrating variables from the updated unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT), expectation-confirmation model (ECM) and trust to determine what factors influence consumers’ decision to continue using food delivery apps (FDA) after the COVID-19 outbreak in Taiwan.

Design/methodology/approach

Data was collected from 350 respondents living in Taiwan via Line using a Google Forms link. A total of 333 valid responses were analyzed after 17 invalid questionnaires were eliminated. To test the suggested study paradigm, partial least squares-structural equation modeling was used as the data analysis approach.

Findings

The results indicate FDA users’ continuance intention (CI) is directly significantly affected by performance expectancy, satisfaction and habit. All the constructs of the updated UTAUT theory, confirmation and trust significantly influence the satisfaction of FDA, and users’ satisfaction significantly positively impacts users’ CI.

Originality/value

Although consumers’ intentions toward FDA have previously been the topic of research, there is a paucity of literature that discusses the connections between the variables that influence FDA users’ CI after the COVID-19 pandemic in Taiwan. By focusing on the relationships between the multiple antecedents of FDA users’ CI, this study contributes to reducing the existing literature gap. Explanation surrounding the elements influencing FDA users’ CI is provided by examining several aspects of FDA usage, including technological and psychological postadoption issues.

本研究试图建立一个综合模型, 整合了来自统一接受和使用科技理论(UTAUT)、期望-确认模型(ECM)和信任等变量, 以确定影响消费者在COVID-19疫情爆发后继续使用食品外卖应用(FDA)的因素。

研究方法

本研究针对台湾的居民通过Line平台使用Google Forms链接收集了350份问卷数据, 经过筛选后得到333份有效回复。为了验证所提出的研究范式, 本研究采用了PLS-SEM作为数据分析方法。

研究发现

结果表明, FDA用户的继续使用意图受到性能预期、满意度和习惯的直接显著影响。UTAUT理论、期望确认和信任显著影响FDA用户的满意度, 而用户的满意度对用户的继续使用意图产生积极影响。

研究创新/价值

尽管消费者对FDA的意向不是新的研究的主题, 但在讨论COVID-19疫情后影响FDA用户继续使用意图的变量之间的关系方面, 文献中存在不足。通过探索FDA用户继续使用意图的多个前因关系, 本研究有助于弥补现有文献的空白。通过考察FDA使用的技术和心理因素等多个方面, 本研究提供了解释影响FDA用户继续使用意图的论述。

Abstract

Under the background of rapid urbanization, all kinds of urban water problems have gradually come into being: local flooding frequently happens, water environment is deteriorated, water-supply is in tension, etc. Meanwhile, with rapid development of higher education in China, campus area and scale are gradually expanding, but traditional campus construction has many drawbacks. In order to promote sponge campus planning and construction of universities in hilly areas and provide demonstration windows for sponge city construction, based on deficiencies of campus construction of Hunan City University in the aspect of water resource utilization, we used ArcGis spatial analysis method, simulation method and comparative analysis method on Storm Water Management Model (SWMM) to establish sponge campus construction indexes, content system and optimal design strategies with objectives of campus water safety, water environment and water resource utilization. Results indicate that: difference between sponge campus planning and traditional campus planning mainly lies in rainfall management. We combed the design process of sponge campus planning in hilly areas from the perspective of rainfall management, and simulated the process of sponge facilities controlling the rainfall in the campus via computer model to verify reasonability of sponge facility planning and select the optimal planning and construction plan. This study has defined design process of sponge campus planning in hilly areas to a certain degree and provided a research basis for sponge campus planning and construction of universities, setting up a typical example and driving effects on solving urban local flooding problem and rainfall resource utilization in hilly areas.

Abstract

Purpose

The importance of teacher leadership in enhancing school outcomes is recognized, but there remains a scarcity of research addressing the conditions for principals to nurture such leadership. This study examined how school contextual factors, i.e. faculty trust and academic emphasis, moderate the impact of principals' distributed leadership lon teacher leadership.

Design/methodology/approach

A nationwide survey was conducted among junior high school teachers in Taiwan. The sample encompassed schools from different geographical regions and sizes, yielding a total of 1,340 valid responses. Hierarchical regression analyses were employed to analyze the potential moderating effects of interest.

Findings

There were interactive effects of principals' distributed leadership and school contextual factors on teachers' adoption of leadership roles. The impact of principals' distributed leadership on teacher leadership was amplified in environments marked by elevated levels of trust relations and reduced academic emphasis.

Practical implications

This study uncovers the critical prerequisites principals must address to cultivate teacher leadership. To effectively encourage heightened teacher engagement in leadership, principals must place a premium on nurturing trusting relations with their teaching staff and acknowledge that the influence of their leadership might be lessened in an environment where credentialism holds sway.

Originality/value

The exploration into faculty trust and academic emphasis yields insights into the conducive conditions for principals to foster teacher leadership. The identified attenuating impact of academic emphasis on principal effect within an Asian societal context highlights its significance not only as an organizational property but also as a manifestation of national cultural values.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to understand the recent developments and trends of intangible investment in Egypt and South Africa.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper follows the framework pioneered by Corrado, Hulten and Sichel (2005, 2009) and measures investments in scientific R&D, organizational capital, and brand equity using the expenditure-based approach.

Findings

The main findings are that South Africa invests consistently and considerably more in intangible assets than Egypt. Among the three intangible assets examined, namely, scientific R&D, organizational capital, and brand equity, South Africa seems to invest more evenly across these assets, whereas intangible investment in Egypt is predominantly driven by investment in brand equity and very little in R&D.

Originality/value

This is the first paper to formally examine intangible investment in African countries. The ballpark estimate provided in this study is a useful step forward in understanding the trends of intangible investment in Egypt and South Africa.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the cross-cultural impact of CEO-Chair’s gender to the likelihood of CEO duality firm’s bribery.

Design/methodology/approach

Hierarchical linear modeling was used to analyze data of 5,837 CEO duality firms from 21 countries.

Findings

Firms with male CEO-Chairs were found to have higher propensity to bribe than their female counterparts. Moreover, cultural values of institutional collectivism and performance orientation strengthened gender’s impact to bribery. In contrast, future orientation weakened the gender-bribery relationship, as opposed to the proposed effect.

Practical implications

Key findings of this study can be utilized to increase awareness and widen perspective on the roles of CEO-Chair’s gender and national culture on bribery. These can also be useful in the selection of CEO-Chair, design of educational programs on ethics as well as government and non-governments’ programs and policies to minimize incidents of bribery.

Originality/value

There are no existing studies on CEO duality firm’s bribery which performed cross-cultural analysis on the impact of CEO-Chair’s gender, making the study a novel contribution to business ethics, organizational structure, corporate governance, management decision, transparency, and accountability.

Abstract

Purpose

Though there are still political turbulences, the economic cooperation between mainland China and Taiwan is inseparable. Cooperation between enterprises on both sides has become more frequent. Studying the similarities and differences between employees in Cross-Strait enterprises can contribute to human resource management. This paper aims to study the cultural difference between employees of mainland China and in Taiwan when facing psychological contract violations.

Design/methodology/approach

A total of 811 valid sample questionnaires were taken from Cross-Strait private enterprise employees. This research adopted partial least squares-structural equation model statistical analysis as an empirical research evaluation.

Findings

This study finds that psychological contract violation has a significant positive impact on turnover intention and a significant negative impact on organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) in the Chinese context. There exist cultural differences between the employees of mainland China and Taiwan. When facing psychological contract violation, it is found that employees from Taiwan are more likely to have a strong turnover intention but still keep higher job performance. Employees from mainland China are found to be more likely to have higher OCB.

Originality/value

The originality of this research lies in establishing a stronger theoretical model to understand employee behavior. This paper verifies the validity of this model under the Chinese context. Moreover, this paper verifies the cultural difference between Cross-Strait employees.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between leader-member exchange (LMX), job satisfaction (JS), life satisfaction (LS), and psychological capital (PC) for employee relation management.

Design/methodology/approach

A total of 319 valid questionnaires were received from employees of financial and electronics manufacturing industries in Taiwan, and they were then analyzed using a structuring equation model with SPSS 12.0 and LISREL 8.8.

Findings

Good LMX increases psychological capital. Psychological capital enhances both JS and LS, and psychological capital serves as a full mediator for both JS and LS. A moderating effect of industrial characteristics is found between LMX and LS and between psychological capital and LS.

Practical implications

The findings suggest that managers need to focus on leadership style in order to develop employees’ life and JS through building psychological capital.

Originality/value

This study not only obtained further support for predictions derived from the LMX theory but was also a more extensive analysis of the meaningful relationships between job and LS with a mediating effect of psychological capital on employee relation management.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of the Perceptions of coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) questionnaire and the Information System Success Questionnaire on students when using the school's COVID-19 epidemic prevention website. The study is aimed toward analyzing both questionnaires as well as evaluating an epidemic prevention website.

Design/methodology/approach

The school's COVID-19 prevention website and two questionnaires (Perceptions of COVID-19 and the Information System Success Questionnaire) are examined in order to investigate 73 students' COVID-19 perceptions. An open-ended question was used as the qualitative data to support quantitative data and evaluate a university's COVID-19 epidemic prevention website from a southern university in Taiwan.

Findings

The findings indicated that most students evaluated the school's COVID-19 website positively and were satisfied. In the open-ended questions, the majority of students rated the quality of the system positively and the need to fix some defects. Students have different COVID-19 perceptions and social distance compliance based on their current situations.

Practical implications

This study provides researchers and website developers a broader understanding of the construction of the school's COVID-19 prevention website and a better understanding of student's COVID-19 perceptions.

Originality/value

To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first study examining a school's epidemic prevention website, which is measured by the Information Success Questionnaire and the Perceptions of COVID-19 Questionnaire for college students.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to examine if personal identification could explicate the black box between participative leadership and employee ambidexterity. Also, the authors aim to explore how and why the top-down effects of higher-level leadership styles affect lower-level outcomes.

Design/methodology/approach

The authors collected multilevel and multisource data from top manager teams, and unit managers and employees of research and development, marketing and sales, and operations from Taiwanese technology firms.

Findings

The results revealed that individual-level personal identification partially mediated the relationship between firm-level participative leadership and individual-level employee ambidexterity, and individual-level coworker social support moderated the effect of firm-level participative leadership on individual-level employee ambidexterity through individual-level personal identification.

Originality/value

This paper demonstrated the importance of participative leadership and personal identification. It contributed to profound comprehension for potential mechanisms of individual-level personal identification and an enhancer of individual-level coworker social support why and how affects firm-level participative leadership on individual-level employee ambidexterity.
