Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to summarize the current state of research on risk, crisis and disaster management in the generic field, and in tourism and hospitality. It identifies key themes and compares the main topics studied in both the tourism and hospitality management and marketing literature.
Design/methodology/approach
A narrative (thematic) review and synthesis was completed based on articles published in the top 20 tourism and hospitality management journals from 2011 to March 2021. A review was conducted of the generic literature from 2016 to 2020.
Findings
From 210 papers reviewed, only 47 are in the hospitality field. The authors found that 80% of papers were empirical with slightly more quantitative papers produced. The majority of the papers focused on crises. Three key themes were found from the review and future research proposed to address gaps based on these findings and a review of 26 papers from the generic risk, crisis and disaster management field.
Practical implications
Research is required into planning and preparedness, not just response and recovery to crises and disasters. Future research should consider hospitality rather than tourism, particularly focusing attention outside of the accommodation sector. Hospitality studies also need to go beyond the micro-organizational level to include more meso- and macro-level studies.
Originality/value
The review provides a number of future research directions for tourism and hospitality research in the field. The paper provides a comprehensive multi-dimensional framework to synthesize studies and identifies research gaps. It also provides recommendations on methodologies required to progress these research directions. Research in this field is likely to grow because of the impact of COVID-19.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to investigate the current state of research using deep learning methods for text classification in the tourism and hospitality field and to propose specific guidelines for future research.
Design/methodology/approach
This study undertakes a qualitative and critical review of studies that use deep learning methods for text classification in research fields of tourism and hospitality and computer science. The data was collected from the Web of Science database and included studies published until February 2022.
Findings
Findings show that current research has mainly focused on text feature classification, text rating classification and text sentiment classification. Most of the deep learning methods used are relatively old, proposed in the 20th century, including feed-forward neural networks and artificial neural networks, among others. Deep learning algorithms proposed in recent years in the field of computer science with better classification performance have not been introduced to tourism and hospitality for large-scale dissemination and use. In addition, most of the data the studies used were from publicly available rating data sets; only two studies manually annotated data collected from online tourism websites.
Practical implications
The applications of deep learning algorithms and data in the tourism and hospitality field are discussed, laying the foundation for future text mining research. The findings also hold implications for managers regarding the use of deep learning in tourism and hospitality. Researchers and practitioners can use methodological frameworks and recommendations proposed in this study to perform more effective classifications such as for quality assessment or service feature extraction purposes.
Originality/value
The paper provides an integrative review of research in text classification using deep learning methods in the tourism and hospitality field, points out newer deep learning methods that are suitable for classification and identifies how to develop different annotated data sets applicable to the field. Furthermore, foundations and directions for future text classification research are set.

Abstract
Bibliometrics is an instrument that allows the analysis of evolution, current state, and future trends in a scientific field. Many disciplines, such as hospitality and tourism, have undertaken bibliometric studies. Based on a review of the leading bibliometric methods used in the main bibliometric documents published in the hospitality and tourism field between 2010 and 2019, this chapter aims to propose a bibliometric guide to help researchers undertake studies based on bibliometric techniques, both evaluative and relational. Any bibliometric research comprises five phases: setting the research questions, selecting the appropriate database, establishing the criteria to follow, filtering the data, applying the proper methods, and analyzing the results. This chapter elaborates on these stages, highlighting the most important evaluative and relational techniques to study the structure of a scientific field from a bibliometric approach. Bibliometric studies provide valuable knowledge for academia, governments, and research centers. It also helps journals' editors evaluate publications and make editorial decisions.
