Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to explore the research field of digital transformation in small and medium enterprises (SMEs), considering the importance of SMEs in the economic development of countries.
Design/methodology/approach
Considering the contributions of researchers and the challenges of SMEs to transform their business models, in this paper, the authors conducted a scientometric analysis using CiteSpace that included 448 documents indexed in Scopus.
Findings
The authors appreciated the growth in the number of publications that have studied the digital transformation process in SMEs, showing a niche of researchers interested in the flourishing research topic. Likewise, the authors identified the intention of SMEs to adopt digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, data analytics, electronic commerce and the Internet of Things.
Practical implications
This paper is a valuable resource for academics and researchers in information systems, decision-makers in digital transformation in SMEs and governmental organisations concerned with digital technologies adoption in SMEs to achieve digital transformation and increase competitiveness and productivity.
Originality/value
This study used CiteSpace to conduct a scientometric analysis to explore how researchers have focused on frameworks and maturity models for measuring SME readiness, the impact of Industry 4.0 on SMEs, guides for helping managers evaluate their Industry 4.0 positioning, the development and implementation of digital business strategies for SMEs, the presentation of cases of SMEs that have driven digital transformation and future research opportunities.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to assess information and communication technologies (ICT) policies for digital transformation in Colombia to determine their effectiveness in technology readiness for Internet of Things (IoT) adoption in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the trading sector.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors conducted a longitudinal study using the ICT module of the Annual Trade Survey (2017–2018) to determine the relationship between SMEs in the trading sector adopting ICT applications and ICT policy enforcement. In this sense, this study applied a chi-square test for independence and addressed a descriptive analysis to determine SMEs’ causes for adopting or rejecting ICT applications.
Findings
This study presents the state of ICT adoption in Colombian SMEs in the trading sector between 2017 and 2018, highlighting that technology readiness is crucial for adopting technological trends.
Research limitations/implications
The data source used for the study is only available for analysis one year after implementing ICT policies focused on digital transformation.
Practical implications
The results support the need for the National Government to formulate IoT policies that favor the adoption of e-commerce based on IoT technologies in SMEs in the trading sector.
Social implications
IoT adoption can mitigate e-commerce problems strengthening SMEs’ competitiveness in the trading sector leading the digital transformation in Colombia.
Originality/value
This study presents the need to formulate IoT policies in Colombia focused on deploying IoT applications to strengthen e-Commerce in SMEs in the trading sector.

Abstract
Purpose
The paper aims to focus on airflow and heat transfer inside the human nasal cavity. The contribution of this work is the inertial analysis of the momentum and thermal stress of the cavity throughout the respiratory cycle.
Design/methodology/approach
By means of computer tomography scans, an accurate three‐dimensional anatomical representation of the human nasal cavity was obtained. A three‐dimensional numerical model is presented in order to predict the time evolution of flow patterns during a quiet breathing cycle, covering inhalation and exhalation. An inertial analysis of the momentum and a detailed study of the thermal behaviour during the breathing cycle is carried out.
Findings
Head loss, velocity and temperature values are in agreement with experimental results from previous studies. Based on these results, the influence of the inhalation and the exhalation on the flow pattern and air conditioning has been reviewed. Results suggest that the anterior and posterior turbinate regions are where the air conditioning is primarily produced.
Practical implications
The future goal is to investigate respiratory disorders to increase the effectiveness of the eventual treatment of the pathology. The model could be a useful tool to predict, for instance, the modification of the flow patterns due to septal perforations.
Originality/value
The transient resolution provides insight into the momentum and thermal inertia though the breathing which is far from being well understood.

Abstract
Purpose
One current trend in burner technology is to obtain high efficiency while keeping low levels of NOx emissions. A swirling flow in combustion ensures a fixed position of a compact flame. Therefore, it is necessary to design efficient swirlers. Flow patterns are simulated for the different swirl devices proposed in this work. Two axial-swirlers are studied: one based on curve-vanes consisting of a straight line with an arc of a circle as the trailing edge and the other is the common flat-vanes. The purpose of this paper is to assess the accuracy of different swirl generators using a well-known benchmark test case.
Design/methodology/approach
This work deals with modelling the swirler using two approaches: the general purpose Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solver Ansys-Fluent® and the suite of libraries OpenFOAM® to solve the Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes equations, showing there is a slight deviation between both approaches. Their performance involves analyzing not only the Swirl number but also the size of the recirculation zones in the test chamber. A subsequent process on the flow patterns was carried out to establish the intensity of segregation which provides insight into the quality of mixing.
Findings
CFD models are feasible tools to predict flow features. It was found that numerical results tend to reduce the inner recirculation zone (IRZ) radial size. Further, an increase of the swirl number involves larger IRZ and a smaller outer recirculation zone (ORZ). The curved swirler displays a better axi-symmetric behaviour than flat vanes. There is weak influence of the chord vanes on the swirl number. The number of vanes is a compromise of head loses and guidance of the flow.
Originality/value
The paper offers two different approaches to solve turbulent swirling flows. One based in a general contrasted commercial tool and other using open source code. Both models show similar performance. An innovative set up for an axial swirler different from the conventional flat vanes was proposed.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to represent the conflict of touristification in the central district of Seville to evaluate the dimension of the problem. Therefore, it focuses on the diagnostic representation of the conflict between citizens and tourists, to help define the coexistence of opposing interests and to bring solutions in favour of a liveable urban landscape.
Design/methodology/approach
The research has implied a detailed analysis beyond the observation of data and statistics, which facilitated a complex diagnosis for decision-making. This has led to consider as an initial framework the main tourist resources, official agreements and civil manifestations regarding touristification. Then, factors of tourist density and one in-depth case study of changes in use have been mapped.
Findings
First, an analysis of the urban spaces affected by the tourist dynamics following the degree of habitability of the resident citizens has been led. Second, of the conflict resulting from a relationship between economic activities, the attractiveness of the urban landscape and the tourist use of the space has been mapped.
Originality/value
Through the study of the central district of a city of great heritage value where conflicts begin to occur as a result of tourism, it is intended to contribute to the development of the spatial syntax of the tourist conflict, what could lead to improve responsible urban and social city policies.

First, the authors describe the main characteristics of the Spanish Roma Minority with special regard to their cultural and linguistic diversity and deprivated social situation. Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to understand the extent to which new forms of capital are noticed by different members of nonprofit organizations (directors, employees, and volunteers) and valued as a factor of organizational capacity.
Design/methodology/approach
Using survey research methodology, the authors studied a nonprofit institution – a delegation of the Portuguese Red Cross located in Fafe, a city in northern Portugal, by giving a questionnaire to all its members.
Findings
The respondents revealed that the existence of other forms of capital (in addition to financial capital) is recognized and valued and that human capital as a whole is particularly relevant to the fulfillment of the Fafe Delegation of Portuguese Red Cross’ mission.
Originality/value
This is the first study on the perceptions of human capital, social capital and financial capital in a Portuguese nonprofit organization.

Abstract
Purpose
Innovativeness is a critical aspect for the survival and success of the company in the long term. The purpose of this paper is to study how the density of the network in which the company is immersed influences the relationship between environment, dynamism and innovativeness. More specifically, the authors analyse whether the network density acts in a heterogeneous way, worsening or improving the effects of technological and market dynamism on innovativeness, respectively.
Design/methodology/approach
The empirical study was conducted on a sample of 292 companies in the agri-food industry in Spain. In order to test the proposed model, the authors used partial least squares.
Findings
The results show that technological dynamism has a positive effect on the generation and development of a firm’s innovativeness. However, market dynamism does not influence innovativeness. The authors also observe that the interactive effects between network density and dynamism are significant, but in a divergent way. Whereas the interactive effect between density and technological dynamism is negative, the interaction between density and market dynamism is positive.
Originality/value
The main contribution of the study is to show how the level of network density alters the effect of technological and market dynamism on innovativeness. The authors highlight the relevance of network theory to explain the contextual background to innovativeness. The authors also stress the importance of differentiating between the market and technological components of dynamism to further elucidate their effects.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to report on an automatic deidentification system for labeling and obfuscating personally identifiable information (PII) in student-generated text.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors evaluate the performance of their deidentification system on two data sets of student-generated text. Each data set was human-annotated for PII. The authors evaluate using two approaches: per-token PII classification accuracy and a simulated reidentification attack design. In the reidentification attack, two reviewers attempted to recover student identities from the data after PII was obfuscated by the authors’ system. In both cases, results are reported in terms of recall and precision.
Findings
The authors’ deidentification system recalled 84% of student name tokens in their first data set (96% of full names). On the second data set, it achieved a recall of 74% for student name tokens (91% of full names) and 75% for all direct identifiers. After the second data set was obfuscated by the authors’ system, two reviewers attempted to recover the identities of students from the obfuscated data. They performed below chance, indicating that the obfuscated data presents a low identity disclosure risk.
Research limitations/implications
The two data sets used in this study are not representative of all forms of student-generated text, so further work is needed to evaluate performance on more data.
Practical implications
This paper presents an open-source and automatic deidentification system appropriate for student-generated text with technical explanations and evaluations of performance.
Originality/value
Previous study on text deidentification has shown success in the medical domain. This paper develops on these approaches and applies them to text in the educational domain.
