Abstract

This book was not borne out of strong ideological feminist ideas or with grandeur aims to change the system. It was conceived as a celebration of the many academic women who have contributed and continue to contribute to make academia a home where high quality and impactful scholarship is observed, where teaching and learning is celebrated, and leadership and service to the discipline is honored. It is a celebration of how far women have come and continue to thrive in the pursuit of research, education, and scholarship. In this concluding chapter, I synthesize the key insights and take-aways from each chapter – academic stories and narratives that can support the modern female academic to energize, motivate, inspire, and thrive in academia.

Abstract

The ANGEL (Authenticated Networked Guided Environment for Learning) project is funded under the JISC DNER 05/99 call. LITC’s involvement in the project includes responsibility for the initial formative evaluation, continuing dissemination and monitoring activities, and the summative evaluation of the system. This articled iscusses the formative evaluation process undertaken for the project by LITC between January and March 2001. The results of this process show that although users have a clear idea of the experience they wish to have within a learning environment, there are many concerns and problems that prevent institutions achieving this experience. Despite the fact that users consistently cite library resources as essential for online learning, they have no clear idea of how learning environments can be developed to improve delivery of resources. The full report of the evaluation can now be found on the ANGEL web site, together with the interview questions and results.

Abstract

Between the preparation of the 27th Annual Report of the A.R.B. and its final consideration, Lord Brabazon, whose personal reports it was to be, died. The Board at its meeting of June 4, 1964, passed the following resolution—‘The members of the Air Registration Board desire to record their deep sense of the loss which they have sustained in the death of Lord Brabazon of Tara while in office as their Chairman. During the 18 years in which he has held this office his vast and wide ranging experience and boldness of thought and speech have added greatly to the standing of the Board. His exceptional abilities, and his endearing qualities as a man, have well deserved the admiration and affection in which he is held by all his colleagues.’
