Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to test the performance of the designed automatic control system based on the Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) and Linear Quadratic Gaussian (LQG) algorithms during landing of the helicopter on the ship deck. This paper is a further development of the series based on Topczewski et al. (2020).

Design/methodology/approach

The system consists of two automatic control algorithms based on LQR and the LQG. It is integrated with the ship motion prediction system based on autoregressive algorithm with parameters calculated using Burg’s method. It is assumed that the source of necessary navigation data is integrated Inertial Navigation System with Global Positioning System. Landing of the helicopter on the ship deck is performed in automatic way, based on the preselected procedure. Performance of the control system is analyzed when all necessary navigation data is available for the system and in case when one of the parameters is unavailable during performing the procedure.

Findings

In this paper, description of the designed control system developed for performing the approach and landing of the helicopter using selected procedure is presented. Helicopter dynamic model is validated using the manufacturer data and by test pilots, overview is presented. Necessary information about ship motion model is also included. Tests showing mission performance while using LQR and LQG algorithms applied to the control system are presented and analyzed, taking into account both situations when full navigation data is available/unavailable for the control system.

Practical implications

Results of the system performance analyses can be used for selection of the proper control methodology for prospective helicopters autopilots. Furthermore, the system can be used to analyze the mission safety when information about one of the navigation parameters is identified by the navigation system as unavailable or incorrect and therefore unavailable during landing on the ship deck.

Originality/value

In this paper, control system dedicated for the automatic landing of the helicopter on the ship deck, based on two different control algorithms is presented. Influence of lack of information about one of the navigation parameters on the mission performance is analyzed.

Purpose

The purpose of this study is optimization of existing PV system and by making the optimization to reach the heights energy performance from the system.

Design/methodology/approach

The methodology used in this work is analytical as well as software using PV*SOL premium software. Both methods are used to achieve a more realistic analysis of the results achieved at the end of the work.

Findings

After analyzing the optimization of the PV system in terms of certain atmospheric conditions, it is clear that the optimization of the system is necessary. Through the optimization of the systems, a better performance of the system is achieved, as well as in the case in question, it affects the increase of the energy generated annually up to 500 kWh.

Originality/value

This work is the original work of the author, which represents a part of the topic of the doctorate.

Abstract

The public health sector in South Korea introduced district health information systems (DHIS) in health centres in the early 1990s. DHIS aimed to help health centres to provide comprehensive health care services and to achieve effective and efficient management of their works. District health information systems are still being implemented in health centres. Information generated and collected through the systems is to be used by local authorities to plan and manage health services in their areas, and further by the central government to make a health plan and health policy at the national level. However, the adoption and implementation of DHIS by health centres does not meet the initial anticipation. Moreover, reasons for that have not been explored yet. This paper presents the development of DHIS for health centres in Korea, evaluates the project focusing on impacts and problems found in implementing the systems, and provides lessons and recommendations for establishing a nationwide health information network.

Union catalogues form the main instrument of interlending in the Netherlands. The most important ones are maintained by the Royal Library in The Hague, the Technical University at Delft, and the Library of the Agricultural University at Wageningen. On‐line library automation will have an increasing impact on interlending, and the challenge is being met by these libraries by setting up an on‐line catalogue of serials, monographs and conference publications combined with an on‐line system for handling interlibrary loan requests developed by the Project for Integrated Catalogue Automation (PICA). The first phase — the serials system — came on‐line in May 1983, and it is hoped the monograph system will be in operation by early 1986.

Abstract

Examines two differing manufacturing operations and characterizes their manufacturing planning and control (MPC) systems. The primary concern of this categorization analysis is to examine the similarities and differences between the flexibilities inherent in each operation′s MPC system. One company has a system which is primarily a push‐based system, the other largely a pull‐based system. Examines different categories of flexibility in terms of both range flexibility (how far the system can cope with the change) and response flexibility (how fast the system can cope with change). The major conclusion is that pull‐based systems have flexibility characteristics which are characterized by relatively clearly thought‐out discontinuities in their range response curves.

Abstract

The construction cost, yearly maintenance cost and yearly remedial cost of plumbing and drainage systems in buildings were investigated. Occupancy, age, piping material, pipe length and the size of the systems were surveyed in 63 buildings. Correlations for costs of the systems in commercial and residential buildings were made with the surveyed results. Length, material and size of the pipes provide good parameters to determine the system construction costs. Higher maintenance cost and remedial cost for aged systems were reported. Remedial cost for corrosion problems increased significantly for the aged systems.

The fundamental intention of integrated modular avionics (IMA) is to reduce the development, procurement and support costs of future aircraft, and improve the technical and operational interoperability between aircraft and aircraft subsystems. There are three main goals driving IMA: reduced life cycle cost; operational performance; and mission performance. The software techniques programme has been carried out with the support of the UK MoD to investigate three specific topic areas. British Aerospace, Smith Industries, and GEC Marconi participated. Systems management, system security, blueprints, were investigated. This paper is concerned with the requirements which are a subset of the software requirements and are directly applicable to the three study areas.

Abstract

Presents results of a survey of the Arabian Gulf region marketplace for library automation systems. The paper provides a market review and evaluates the vendors' standing and discusses the various criteria that underpin relative success or failure in this specific marketplace. The paper begins with a short history of library automation systems in the region and the changes arising in the mid‐1990s as major European and North American vendors began to recognise its potential as a territory for growth opportunities in sales and support services. A market share analysis section in which vendors' varying success in fulfilling key local requirements as well as more widely applicable criteria are analysed in relation to their marketplace success. The Horizon system from Dynix emerges as the clear market leader in the principal states of the Arabian Gulf region, due mainly to its strong Arabic and local support capabilities. Finally, two tables list the market share and the relative shares in responsibility between parent company and local vendor for each major system aspect.

To cover filing systems in a comprehensive way, therefore, we not only have to discuss both of these systems but also the numbering and organisation of records or papers that allow them to be filed and retrieved.
