Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to present a contribution to improve the performance of vector control scheme of double star induction motor drive (DSIM) by using an optimized synergetic control approach. The main advantage of synergetic control is that it supports all parametric and nonparametric uncertainties, which is not the case in several control strategies.

Design/methodology/approach

The suggested controller is developed based on the synergistic control theory and the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm which allow to obtain the optimal parameter of suggested controller to improve the performance of control system.

Findings

To show the benefits of proposed controller, a comparative simulation results between conventional PI controller, sliding mode controller and suggested controller were carried out.

Originality/value

The obtained simulation results illustrate clearly that synergetic controller ensures a rapid response, asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system in the all range operating condition and system robustness in presence of parameter variation in all range of operating conditions.

Abstract

Purpose

To take relative actions to cope with the threat which network finance information security now encounters by constructing controlling tactical and synergetic model.

Design/methodology/approach

It is practical to use the synergetic self‐organization theory to calculate the effects that the force of synergetic system of controlling tactics to financial information security makes on network financial system, and it is also practical to construct the synergetic model of controlling tactics to network financial information security on the basis of it.

Findings

Through applying synergetic analysis to controlling tactical system of network financial information security, it can be found out that controlling tactical system is an open system which changes from disorder to order and which keeps away from a balancing state. As an opening system, controlling tactics are interacting with outside from now and then.

Research limitations/implications

Network financial information security takes on dynamics, relativity, integrity and complexity. Accessibility of data is the main limitations which model will be applied.

Practical implications

From the view of network financial information security, constructing controlling tactical and synergetic model of information security are explained.

Originality/value

Network finance is orientated as a special social and economic system. The author does analysis on the network financial system, and expounds order parameters and model of network financial system.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to design a synergetic controller to precisely and quickly track reference signals in robot manipulators. Having smooth control signal this controller enables the nonlinear robot system to track desired references in presence of disturbances in a finite time.

Design/methodology/approach

A new synergetic manifold is introduced here, followed by adding a nonlinear exponential term to it have a precise tracking within a finite time of the desired references with disturbances. Previously the nonlinear term was inserted in the main synergetic equation which makes it complicated due to its hard mathematical approach. Using Lyapunov function, the stability of the system in the presence of disturbances is proved. The validity of the resulted system is confirmed by simulating it in Simulink.

Findings

Using a terminal synergetic controller with new manifold proposed in this work enables system’s state variables to track desired reference signal in the presence of disturbances from any initial condition with proper precision and rate. Simulation results show that compared to similar methods it provides a more proper speed and a finite time convergence with high precision and speed.

Originality/value

Providing fast and precise convergence, the proposed controller can be used in robot manipulator systems which need fast response and also have a precise performance such as in printing 3D objects and any industrial process.

Abstract

Purpose

The operation state of lithium-ion battery for vehicle is unknown and the remaining life is uncertain. In order to improve the performance of battery state prediction, in this paper, a joint estimation method of state of charge (SOC) and state of health (SOH) for lithium-ion batteries based on multi-scale theory is designed.

Design/methodology/approach

In this paper, a joint estimation method of SOC and SOH for lithium-ion batteries based on multi-scale theory is designed. The venin equivalent circuit model and fast static calibration method are used to fit the relationship between open-circuit voltage and SOC, and the resistance and capacitance parameters in the model are identified based on exponential fitting method. A battery capacity model for SOH estimation is established. A multi-time scale EKF filtering algorithm is used to estimate the SOC and SOH of lithium-ion batteries.

Findings

The SOC and SOH changes in dynamic operation of lithium-ion batteries are accurately predicted so that batteries can be recycled more effectively in the whole vehicle process.

Originality/value

A joint estimation method of SOC and SOH for lithium-ion batteries based on multi-scale theory is accurately predicted and can be recycled more effectively in the whole vehicle process.

Abstract

Purpose

Quality management (QM) practices have long been suggested as a package to improve the quality performance of a company. Yet, empirical studies offered little support of this perspective as only a small set of QM practices were found to be conductive to quality improvement. By taking a new approach, the purpose of this paper is simultaneously evaluate the individual and synergistic effects of several key quality practices on operations performance.

Design/methodology/approach

Survey data were collected and used to test the proposed hypotheses. Hierarchical regression analyses were performed to assess the magnitude of synergistic effects and individual effects.

Findings

It is found in this study that the synergistic effects across QM practices are substantial in enhancing all operations performance dimensions whereas individual effect varies for different performance goals.

Originality/value

This study makes theoretical contributes to the field of QM by providing empirical support of the interdependence assumption of QM practices and resolving the inconsistent findings. Practically, the results suggest that in-depth implementation of various QM practices simultaneously can be highly effective to achieve performance improvement on all accounts. In addition, the positive additional individual effects also open up a firm’s strategic choices of where to focus the resource investment in the adoption process as long as the strategic focus can justify its contribution toward the desired performance goals.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to study the controlled release and synergistic effect of water-soluble polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) on phosphate corrosion inhibitor at the interface of thermal insulation cotton/carbon steel.

Design/methodology/approach

This study was carried out using a coating method, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy and AC impedance.

Findings

The single-phase phosphate particles were coated/adsorbed on the PVA film, which was formed on the fiber surface of corrosion inhibitor/PVA-impregnated rock wool sample. On the surface of Q235 steel, an effective protective film was formed by the corrosion inhibitor with partially dissolved PVA that can significantly increase the polarization resistance of corrosion reaction, and reduce the capacitive reactance of electric double layer. The rock wool impregnated with the phosphate corrosion inhibitor and 1.5 per cent PVA showed obvious controlled release and inhibition synergism.

Originality/value

The rock wool impregnated with the phosphate corrosion inhibitor and 1.5 per cent PVA showed the following advantages: the adsorption and release quantities of the corrosion inhibitor increased by 3.3 and 2.9 times, respectively; the release-adsorption equilibrium time increased from 2 to 6 h; and the corrosion inhibition efficiency increased from 61.55 per cent to 94.6 per cent.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to focus on the impact of multi-level knowledge sharing between and within organizations on the risk control of rural inclusive finance. The paper presents a synergistic risk control system integrating external and internal factors for rural inclusive finance by constructing different knowledge-sharing platforms in an environment, which is full of many uncertainties.

Design/methodology/approach

This study is based on survey methods. To achieve the research objectives, the authors adopt a single case study approach. For data collection, the authors apply a wide variety of methods such as semi-structured interviews, field visits, second-hand databases and official websites.

Findings

The results emphasize that using multi-level knowledge sharing such as the inter- and intra-organizational level, can facilitate the risk control of rural inclusive finance during the post-COVID-19 era. Furthermore, it is also noted that achieving knowledge sharing at different levels by building diverse knowledge-sharing platforms can promote the risk control of rural inclusive finance from the individual-organization level to the chain level of multi-organization collaboration, which contributes to the formation of symbiotic risk control ecology.

Research limitations/implications

The authors have formed the “Chinese wisdom” to deal with inclusive financial risks and to promote in-depth development in relation to the “last mile” practice of inclusive finance, which means the final and the most important phase of a project. The conclusions contribute to enriching the outcomes regarding the risk control of rural inclusive finance, provide experiences to its sustainable development and offer a reference to other countries with their risk control of rural inclusive finance.

Originality/value

Drawing on the knowledge-sharing approach, this study creatively resolves the persistent problems in the risk control of rural inclusive finance, which forms a powerful supplement to the extant literature. Meanwhile, the paper combines the two contextual factors of the post-COVID-19 era and emerging economies, which can be deemed as a novel attempt.

Abstract

The synergistic effect of sodium salt of 2‐chloroethyl phosphonic acid (2‐Cl EPA) and Zn2+, in controlling corrosion of carbon steel in a neutral aqueous environment containing 60ppm Cl–, was evaluated by weight‐loss and electrochemical methods. A formulation consisting of 300ppm 2‐Cl EPA and 300ppm Zn2+ was observed to deliver 95 percent inhibition efficiency. A suitable mechanism of corrosion inhibition has been proposed which is based on the results obtained from polarization study and uv‐visible absorption and reflectance spectra. 2‐Cl EPA‐Zn2+ system appears to function as a mixed inhibitor. The protective film consisted of Fe2+ ‐2‐Cl EPA complex, Zn(OH)2 and oxides of iron. The film was found to be semiconducting in nature.

Abstract

Norbert Wiener’s cybernetic paradigm represents one of the seminal ideas of the twentieth century. Nevertheless, its full potential has yet to be realized. For instance, cybernetics is relatively little used as an analytical tool in the social sciences. One reason, it is argued here, is that Wiener’s framework lacks a crucial element – a functional definition of information. Although so‐called Shannon information has made many valuable contributions and has many important uses, it is blind to the functional properties of information. Here a radically different approach to information theory is described. After briefly critiquing the literature in information theory, a new kind of cybernetic information will be proposed called “control information.” Control information is not a “thing” but an attribute of the relationships between things. It is defined as: the capacity (know‐how) to control the acquisition, disposition and utilization of matter/energy in purposive (cybernetic) processes. This concept is briefly elucidated, and a formalization proposed in terms of a common unit of measurement, namely the quantity of “available energy” that can be controlled by a given unit of information in a given context. However, other metrics are also feasible, from money to allocations of human labor. Some illustrations are briefly provided and some of the implications are discussed.
