Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is twofold: to identify the supply chain risks in the automotive and electronic industries in Brazil, and to highlight the urgency of supply chain risk management (SCRM) implementation.
Design/methodology/approach
It uses exploratory study methodology in the automotive and electronic industries, taking in consideration of the (SCRM) phase of initiation.
Findings
There are significant practices to implement SCRM: better supply chain communication, SCRM and business continuity planning training program, and the creation of a chief risk officer position to manage the supply chain risks.
Research limitations/implications
The limitation of this study comes from its small sample size. There are two simple reasons: many companies did not know SCRM and thus misinterpreted the information about SCRM.
Practical implications
This case study promotes more preparedness for the two industries to manage the risks of supply chain.
Originality/value
This study shows the risks that surround the supply chain in the automotive and electronic industries in Brazil and how these industries can implement SCRM in a successful way.

Abstract
Purpose
The aim of this conceptual study is to analyze the effects of state-of-the-art research streams on supply chain risk management (SCRM) based on organizational theoretical background and direct future research toward the use of other related organizational theories. This paper seeks to provide a framework for understanding various organizational theories that can impact the understanding of SCRM.
Design/methodology/approach
A systematic literature review on articles published from 1998 to 2020 was conducted manually in the following databases: Emerald, Science Direct, Taylor & Francis Online, and Wiley online library. Among these articles, the paper by Smeltzer and Siferd (1998) is the first article published on the topic. Therefore, that serves as a starting point for the papers' analysis. A total of 109 articles have been selected and reviewed in detail.
Findings
The results of the study indicate that the articles which utilize theories in SCRM research have been mostly published in the last three years. The quantitative and case studies have been prevalently applied methods in the articles. In total, 34 theories are listed from the investigated articles. The four commonly studied theories among these are the information processing theory, transaction cost theory, contingency theory, and resource-based view.
Originality/value
This paper is the pioneer in the sense that the paper specifically and directly reviews the SCRM literature in terms of organizational theory usage. For future research, this study offers a diffusion of innovation (DOI) theory that explains the factors which can affect the adoption or diffusion of SCRM practices.

Abstract
Purpose
The relationship between just-in-time (JIT) and supply chain disruption risk is unclear from the existing literature. This paper aims to investigate the impact of supplier JIT and customer JIT on supplier disruption risk (SDR), internal disruption risk (IDR), and customer disruption risk (CDR) and explore the moderating role of supply chain centralization.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on survey data collected from 213 manufacturing firms in China, this study employs structural equation modeling with SmartPLS 3.0 to test the main proposed model and applies an ordinary least square regression to test the moderating effect.
Findings
The results demonstrate that supplier JIT is positively related to SDR and negatively associated with IDR. Customer JIT is positively associated with CDR but has no significant effect on IDR. The results also show that SDR and CDR lead to IDR and mediate the relationship between supplier JIT, customer JIT, and IDR. In addition, supply chain centralization amplifies the positive impacts of supply chain JIT on SDR and IDR.
Originality/value
This study makes two main contributions. First, the study provides a comprehensive analysis of the relationship between supply chain JIT and disruption risk. Second, the study addresses that implementing JIT in a supply chain with a centralized decision-making structure leads to a higher level of disruption risk.

Abstract
Purpose
This article aims to examine the simultaneous effect of risks on physical and intangible dimensions of supply chain performance under the globalization and Covid-19 perspectives.
Design/methodology/approach
The manipulation of literature reviews together with the combination of Q-sort and empirical data in the construction industry to identify and assess risks and supply chain performance, is a novel approach in the supply chain risk management area. The analysis of Structural Equation Modeling that is able to calculate the simultaneous impact of various risks on supply chain performance, is used to validate this relationship.
Findings
Global supply chains are currently facing interruptions caused by several sources of inherent uncertainties, e.g. natural disasters, war and terrorism, external legal issues, economic and political instability, social and cultural grievances, and diseases. The weaknesses of the current global supply chain have been revealed, resulting in delays, supply unfulfillment, labor shortages and demand fluctuation. These supply chain risks have a great on supply chain performance indicators, and the magnitude of their impact tends to increasingly impact in the context of globalization and the Covid-19 pandemic. Findings showed that the proposed risk models can be explained with Variance of supplier performance (25.5%), Innovation and learning (21.2%), Internal business (61.9%), Customer service (39.4%) and Finance (39.7%).
Research limitations/implications
Supply chain managers should keep in mind acceptable cost/benefit trade-offs in corporate risk mitigation efforts associated with major contingency risks. In doing so, the proposed hypothesized model can be “a road map” to achieve this purpose. Our research favors the adoption of supply chain management strategies, e.g. postponement, speculation and avoidance.
Originality/value
The trend toward globalization and the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic increasing supply chain complexity are regarded as key drivers of supply chain risk and therefore enhance vulnerability to supply chain.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to introduce the integrated model of the Preference Selection Index (PSI) and the prospect theory as new means to appraise the impact of supply chain sustainability risks based on five pillars of sustainability. Research has shown that sustainability risk assessment has a strong positive impact on improving the performance of enterprises.
Design/methodology/approach
This study adopts a new decision support model for assessing supply chain sustainability risk based on additional failure mode and effect analysis parameters and its integration with PSI methodology and prospect theory. A case example of the supply chain small and medium enterprise (SME) producing fashion have been used in this study.
Findings
The result of this study reveals some critical supply chain sustainability risks affecting the sustainability of enterprises under study.
Research limitations/implications
The use of a limited sample is often associated as a limitation in the research studies and this study is based on findings from SMEs in the fashion retail supply chain. This preliminary study provides academics and practitioners an exemplar of supply chain sustainability risk assessment using integration of the PSI method and prospect theory.
Practical implications
The result of this study is beneficial for practitioners, particularly owner–managers of SMEs who can use this study as guidance on how to consider risk behavior to identify and select the critical sustainability risks and plan mitigating strategies accordingly.
Originality/value
Scientific studies on using the PSI and its integration with prospect theory as means to assess the criticality of supply chain sustainability risks is very rare. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first paper that presents the integrated model of the PSI and prospect theory to rank supply chain sustainability risks based on five pillars of sustainability.

Abstract
Despite a hangover from the worldwide economic crisis, international trade rebounded nicely with a record-level growth in late 2010. A sharp rise in international trade has sparked the international traffic growth. A majority of this traffic growth originated from maritime logistics which could move cargoes in large volume and at cheaper freight costs. Due to its cost-efficiency and easy access, maritime logistics typically accounts for more than half of the worldwide freight volume. However, maritime logistics poses a greater supply chain risk, since ocean carriers used for maritime logistics are more vulnerable to unpredictable weather conditions, piracy attacks, terrorist hijacking, and cargo damages on the open sea than any other modes of transportation. Also, given the vast areas that maritime logistics covers, it is more difficult to protect maritime logistics activities from potential hazards and threats.
To better protect maritime logistics activities from potential security lapses, this chapter introduces and develops a variety of systematic security measures and tools that were successfully used by best-in-class companies and government entities across the world. Also, this chapter proposes a total maritime security management model as a way to formulate maritime risk mitigation strategies. To elaborate, this chapter sheds light on the roots of maritime security measures and tools, the ways that those measures and tools are best utilized, the roles of advanced information technology in maritime security from the global supply chain perspectives, the visualization and identification of potential maritime and its related supply chain risks, and policy guidelines that will help enhance maritime security.

Purpose
This study proposes a new model for assessing supply chain sustainability risk integrating subjectivity and objectivity of decision-maker. Research has shown the vacancy of study in dealing with the above issue. To fill this research gap, a new decision support model considering the subjectivity and objectivity of decision-makers in assigning the weight of the supply chain risk reprioritization criteria is presented and demonstrated using a case example.
Design/methodology/approach
This study adopts a new decision support model for assessing supply chain sustainability risk based on additional failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) parameters and its integration with preference selection index (PSI) methodology and the Shannon entropy. A case example of the supply chain small and medium enterprise (SME) producing handy crafts has been used in this study.
Findings
The result of the study reveals critical sustainability risk dimensions and their risk elements demanding management attention to support realization to a more sustainable business operation.
Research limitations/implications
The use of a single case study is often associated as a limitation in the research studies, and this study is based on findings from SMEs in the handy craft sector in a developing country. Nonetheless, future studies may focus on replicating this study using more samples. This preliminary study provides academics and practitioners with an exemplar of supply chain sustainability risk assessment from the SME in a developing country.
Practical implications
The result of this study is beneficial for practitioners, particularly owner-managers of SMEs who can use this study as guidance on how to identify and select the critical sustainability risks and plan mitigating strategies accordingly.
Originality/value
Scientific effort on appraising criticality of supply chain sustainability risks considering subjectivity and objectivity of decision-maker simultaneously is missing in earlier studies. To the best of the author’s knowledge, this is the first paper applying the PSI and Shannon entropy method and using it for evaluating the impact of supply chain risk based on five sustainability pillars. The findings and suggestions for future research initiatives will provide new insights for scholars and practitioners in managing SME supply chain sustainability risks.

Abstract
This study aims to critically review and analyse the classification of supply chain risks and disruptions and thereby suggest a suitable method for classifying maritime risks. It aims to discuss the propagation effects of port disruption on the supply chain and mitigation strategies.
In addition to secondary research, six semi-structured interviews were conducted with the management personnel of two terminal operators, two shipping lines and two insurance companies.
When a port disruption happens, the most immediate impact is the adverse effects on terminal operations. It also leads to a domino effect on other parties in the supply chain including shippers and consignees, shipping companies, inter-modal transport providers and other ports. Proper risk management needs to be embraced by the supply chain members. However, there is very little or no such collaboration between the supply chain members in practice.
This article proposes a more integrative approach in assessing various kinds of risks, and more research in this area to be done for Asia.
Risk management has been the concern for many stakeholders ranging from industry practitioners to the people who are affected by the maritime business throughout the world. The maritime industry should look into risk management in the maritime logistics and supply chain context instead of dealing with risk in isolation.
There is a serious lack of research for analysing supply chain disruptions with ports as a focal point. The paper contributes by filling the research gap.

Abstract
This research develops a set of specific modern slavery disclosure principles for organisations. It critically evaluates seven legislative Acts from five different countries and 16 guidelines and directives from international organisations. By undertaking an in-depth content analysis, the research derives an index comprising nine principles and 49 disclosure items to promote best-practice disclosure in tackling modern slavery. We promote nine active principles for organisations to implement and disclose: recognising modern slavery practices, identifying risks, publishing a modern slavery risk prevention policy, proactive in assessing and addressing risks, assessing efficacy of actions, garnering internal and external oversight, externally communicating modern slavery risk mitigation, implementing a suppliers' assessment and code of conduct to ensure transparency and specifying consequences for non-compliance. The research is motivated by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 8, which focusses on economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work. The research findings will assist practitioners seeking to discover and disclose evidence of modern slavery practices and their mitigation to minimise and encourage the elimination of this unethical and illegal practice in domestic and global supply chains and operations.

Abstract
Purpose
This study assesses disruption risk management and resilience capabilities from the perspective of top-level operations and supply chain managers when faced with COVID-19 disruptions.
Design/methodology/approach
The study involves qualitative research via a triple-phase, interview-based method, following an interpretivist philosophy embodying an empathetic, subjective view to interpret the perspective of top-level managers. The data has been coded and analysed thematically.
Findings
Based on the ability to adapt to changing and uncertain environments using quick decision-making, technology and access to resources, the findings show a level of resilience adequate to withstand risk disruptions. The data do not expose differences between disruption management and traditional risk management but do display potential for businesses to adopt a disruption-oriented supply network that is flexible.
Research limitations/implications
Currently, there are little data concerning COVID-19 disruption risk, and the propagation of these impacts throughout the supply chain. This study is limited to the perspective of top, senior-level managers in supply chain and operations.
Practical implications
The research signifies that by adopting a disruption-oriented, flexible network, business may have the means to overcome and surpass impacts from disruption risks. The study offers knowledge on supply chain resilience and flexibility in times of crisis. Managers and practitioners might adopt the evidence to support in developing strategies towards building resilient supply chains.
Originality/value
The findings and conclusions of this paper are the product of the authors’ own work, and the research has been supported appropriately through academic contributions in the study area. All sources have been acknowledged.
