Abstract
Primary care groups (PCGs) and primary care trusts (PCTs) are required to ensure that patient and public involvement underpins all activity. In Part 1, the literature review revealed many challenges to implementing this important measure of performance that would test those with responsibility for achieving a meaningful outcome for all stakeholders. Part 2 reports on a local study that used qualitative data from key stakeholders to examine how one PCG was responding to the involvement agenda. The findings revealed cynicism and doubt among board members about the purpose and value of involvement, despite which some progress had been made in engaging with local voluntary groups. However, the experience of involvement among local patients had not always been a positive one. It is suggested that issues of power and organisational culture will need to be tackled through greater investment in clinical and managerial staff development.

Abstract
Primary care groups are required to demonstrate that patients and the public are involved in the planning, delivery and evaluation of the services they provide. However, a review of the literature suggests that managers' ability will be greatly tested if they are to achieve meaningful progress in this area. Some suggestions are made to assist managers in this important role. In the next issue of MCC, Part 2 reports findings from a locality case study.

Abstract
Purpose
People with intellectual disabilities (ID) can be vulnerable to developing mental health problems. It has been found that participating in regular exercise can help to improve emotional well-being, both in typically developing people and those with ID. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the experiences of community clients with ID who have engaged in a football training programme, and the perceived impacts on attitudes, mood and behaviour.
Design/methodology/approach
Interviews with seven patients from generic or forensic community ID services were conducted. The transcripts were analysed using interpretative phenomenological analysis.
Findings
Two master themes were identified from the interviews, “Striving” and “Togetherness”.
Originality/value
The most important factors related to taking part in the football programme were the social, emotional and personal growth associated with being part of a team and general enjoyment of being part of something. Although aspects of football knowledge and physical fitness were still evident, their impact seemed to be less significant. The experience of football was overwhelmingly positive.

Abstract
The Departmental Committee appointed to inquire into the use of preservatives and colouring matters in the preservation and colouring of food, have now issued their report, and the large amount of evidence which is recorded therein will be found to be of the greatest interest to those concerned in striving to obtain a pure and unsophisticated food‐supply. It is of course much to be regretted that the Committee could not see their way to recommend the prohibition of all chemical preservatives in articles of food and drink; but, apart from this want of strength, they have made certain recommendations which, if they become law, will greatly improve the character of certain classes of food. It is satisfactory to note that formaldehyde and its preparations may be absolutely prohibited in foods and drinks; but, on the other hand, it is suggested that salicylic acid may be allowed in certain proportions in food, although in all cases its presence is to be declared. The entire prohibition of preservatives in milk would be a step in the right direction, although it is difficult to see why, in view of this recommendation, boric acid should be allowed to the extent of 0·25 per cent. in cream, more especially as by another recommendation all dietetic preparations intended for the use of invalids or infants are to be entirely free from preservative chemicals; but it will be a severe shock to tho3e traders who are in the habit of using these substances to be informed that they must declare the fact of the admixture by a label attached to the containing vessel. The use of boric acid and borax only is to be permitted in butter and margarine, in proportions not exceeding 0·5 per cent. expressed as boric acid, without notification. It is suggested that the use of salts of copper in the so‐called greening of vegetables should not be allowed, but upon this recommendation the members of the Committee were not unanimous, as in a note attached to the report one member states that he does not agree with the entire exclusion of added copper to food, for the strange reason that certain foods may naturally contain traces of copper. With equal truth it can be said that certain foods may naturally contain traces of arsenic. Is the addition of arsenic therefore to be permitted? The Committee are to be congratulated upon the result of their labours, and when these recommendations become law Great Britain may be regarded as having come a little more into line— although with some apparent reluctance—with those countries who regard the purity of their food‐supplies as a matter of national importance.

Abstract
Purpose
Recent advances in coaching technology enhanced its accessibility and affordability for a broader population. In the imposing growth of economy and the demand for extensive coaching intervention for executives, artificial intelligence (AI)-based coaching is one of the possible solutions. While the evidence of AI coaching effectiveness is expanding, a comprehensive understanding of the field remains elusive. In particular, the true potential of AI coaching tools, ethical considerations and their current functionality are subjects of ongoing investigation.
Design/methodology/approach
The systematic literature review was conducted to extract experimental results and concepts about utilizing AI in coaching practice. The paper presents the primary capabilities of state-of-the-art coaching tools and compares them with human coaching.
Findings
The review shows that AI coaching chatbots and tools are effective for narrow tasks such as goal attainment, support for various psychological conditions and induction of reflection processes. Whereas, deep long-term coaching, working alliance and individualized approach are out of current AI coaching competence. In the current state, AI coaching tools serve as complementary helping tools that cannot replace human coaching. However, they have the potential to enhance the coach’s performance and serve as valuable assistants in intricate coaching interventions.
Originality/value
The review offered insights into the current capabilities of AI coaching chatbots, aligned with International Coaching Federation set of competencies. The review outlined the drawbacks and benefits of chatbots and their areas of application in coaching.
