The purpose of this chapter is to develop a new perspective model of well-balanced information economy.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this chapter is to develop a new perspective model of well-balanced information economy.

Methodology

The methodological tools of this work are based on application of the method of comparative analysis for comparing the old and the new model of information economy, modeling of socio-economic systems, simplex-method as an algorithm for solving the optimization task of linear programming, related to improvement of the conceptual model of information economy, and the method of formalization for graphical presentation of a new model of information economy.

Results

The developed and presented author’s perspective model of information economy envisages balancing in four main directions: infrastructural possibilities and readiness for their practical usage by society and business; state regulation and market self-management; existing and new information; and external information exchange. Despite the clarity and strictness of conceptual settings, the new model is peculiar for increased flexibility and adaptation to the peculiarities of the socio-economic practice of economic system. Thus, the new model of well-balanced information economy allows overcoming all drawbacks – logical mismatches and contradictions – of the existing (old) model of information economy.

Recommendations

Due to optimization of the conceptual model, its practical implementation in economic activities of modern socio-economic systems becomes possible – as a result of which, with accumulation of experience, it will be possible to assess true value of the idea of information economy’s formation for humanity and the global economic system.

Abstract

Under current conditions, strong sustainable socio-economic development of major metropolitan areas in separate regions and separate countries comparable to them in size is possible with the optimal management of a set of anti-epidemic measures to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. This chapter constructs the first numerical model of the quasi-periodic dynamics of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was created based on the innovative model of the Kondratiev waves developed by the authors in their previous works. The authors found a close approximation between the model and the actual data for the four waves of development of the COVID-19 pandemic in Moscow. It was also noted that this model applies to small countries close in population to Moscow when comparing the correlation and autocorrelation curves. The data calculated by the models indicate the possibility of the practical application of the developed model for metropolitan areas and small countries comparable to them in size and population. Additionally, the model showed the accuracy of the results for such large countries as Russia and the United States.

Abstract

This chapter presents a case study involving a socio-economic Organizational Development (OD) project carried out in a European subsidiary of a large multinational corporation traded on the New York Stock Exchange. This research case study, one of the 1,854 socio-economic interventions undertaken by the ISEOR research center, was chosen for its good illustration of the OD engineering process. It connects the dots between OD and financial performance, between immediate results and the creation of potential. We look at some of the tools and methods, such as overhauling loss and profit accounts and balance sheets with an eye on socio-economic balance, to illustrate socioeconomic tools at work and how they help enhance compatibility between the objectives of all stakeholders, including shareholders. With this case study, we also set out to provide food for thought on the contribution of socio-economic OD to the construction of socially responsible capitalism (Savall et al., 2015).

Abstract

Our primary goal is to develop an integrated, quantitative assessment tool evaluating how human economic activities influence spatial patterns of urbanization, and how land-use change resulting from urbanization affects stream water quality and aquatic ecosystem health. Here we present a prototype of a holistic assessment tool composed of three “building blocks” simulating the social and economic structures, spatial pattern of urbanization, and watershed health as determined by various metrics. The assessment tool is applied to Dutchess County, New York and two of its largest watersheds, Wappinger and Fishkill Creek watersheds, demonstrating how an explicit link can be established between human economic activities and ecosystem health through changes in land use.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of the research is to determine the stages of the development of information economy in modern Russia and to create a conceptual model of establishment and development of information economy in modern Russia.

Methodology

The methodology of the research includes a systemic approach and the method of comparative analysis.

Results

The authors conclude that despite large potential, Russia is still at the initial stage of information economy’s formation due to the influence of the determined institutional, structural, and investment barriers. At present, Russia is in the process of transition from the initial stage of information economy’s formation, which is related to the formation of technosphere (spheres of the ICT), to the middle stage, in which sociosphere (information society) is established. However, despite this, there is a large potential in the sphere of informatization of socio-economic system of Russia, which belongs to the final stage of the formation of information economy.

Recommendations

The created conceptual model of establishment and development of information economy in modern Russia showed structural disproportions in information economy of modern Russia. Insufficient technological support, which has resulted in ineffective state management during the formation of information economy at the initial stage, cannot be combined with independently formed social core, the process of creation of which, initiated by the state directive on transition to the middle stage of the formation of information economy, should have started this year. The authors offer practice-oriented recommendations for correction of the current strategy of information economy’s formation in modern Russia.

Abstract

In this chapter, the author relates the historical trajectory of the Vietnamese revolution and its relentless willingness to build socialism despite external aggressions, first colonialist (France), then fascist (Japan), and finally imperialist (United States). The author traces the analysis back to the August (1945) revolution and the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. The author continues with the 30 years of wars for national independency, then with the two very difficult decades after the wars. The author studies the so-called “Doi Moi” (renewal) period and the economic advances it allowed, then the political aspects of the Vietnamese socialist system, before exposing the questions of international relations.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of the chapter is to study dynamics of development of economic conflicts and to develop a conceptual model of conflict of socio-economic system as an analog to the model of economic cycle.

Methodology

The author compiles and analyzes the existing conceptual static model of conflict of a socio-economic system. The theoretical basis of the research includes the works of modern authors that reflect provisions of the theory of cycles and devoted to cyclic fluctuations of socio-economic systems. The methodology of the chapter includes the method of dynamic modeling of the process of development of socio-economic systems and the method of formalization (graphic presentation of the obtained results and conclusions). Also, the author uses the complex of general scientific methods within the systemic approach – induction, deduction, analysis, and synthesis.

Conclusions

It is substantiated that the existing conceptual static model of economic conflict, which treats it as a non-recurrent phenomenon in socio-economic system, contradicts its dynamic nature. Instead of this, similarly to the model of economic cycle, a conceptual dynamic model of conflict of socio-economic system is developed, which treats economic conflict as a process that develops according to a certain algorithm and is constantly repeated.

Originality/value

The offered conceptual model of conflict of a socio-economic system as an analogue of the model of economic cycle allows specifying the methodology of studying economic crises, which are manifestations/examples of economic conflicts. This model emphasizes the dichotomic nature of economic conflict (its probable negative or positive consequences), which allows for more precise treatment of economic crisis – which is usually considered to be a negative phenomenon. According to the offered model, crisis is not a phase of economic cycle but socio-economic process that is characterized by cyclic fluctuations. As is expected, the developed model will allow describing the practice of development of modern socio-economic systems with higher precision.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this chapter is to determine the basic institutes of well-balanced information economy and compile its institutional model.

Approach

The research methodology is based on the methods of the new institutional economic theory. The authors determine the most important qualitative characteristics of the innovational model of a well-balanced information economy and select social institutes that allow taking them into account and ensuring them during practical implementation of the model. The authors describe social institutes that are the basis of a well-balanced information economy and the process of their formation. The authors also use the method of modeling socio-economic phenomena and processes to compile the institutional model of a well-balanced information economy and the method of formalization of its graphic interpretation.

Findings

It is concluded that the basic institutes of the innovational model of a well-balanced information economy include the institutes of feedback collection and control and protection of information. These institutes ensure observation of the principles of implementation of this model and ensure its cyclic development and sustainability in the long-term.

Originality/Value

The presented institutional model of a well-balanced information economy harmonizes the interaction between all the participants of socio-economic relations and processes of information economy, including its state regulation, transition of new information into the category of existing (from product into resource), internal and external exchange of information, its usage, etc.

The purpose of the work is to determine the basic principles of “conflict-free” development of socio-economic systems.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of the work is to determine the basic principles of “conflict-free” development of socio-economic systems.

Methodology

The theoretical and methodological platform for the research includes the principles of crisis management of economic systems, proclaimed within the theory of economic cycles and the theory of economic growth – the principle of risk insurance, the principles of closed economy, the principles of post-crisis innovational development, and the principle of foundation on the real sector of economy. The author substantiates non-applicability of these principles to “conflict-free” socio-economic systems and determines the basic principles of “conflict-free” development of socio-economic systems, which differ from the existing principles of crisis management of economic systems. For this, the method of modeling of socio-economic processes and systems and the method of formalization are used.

Conclusions

As a result of the research, the basic principles of “conflict-free” development of socio-economic systems are offered – the principle of self-regulation of socio-economic system, the principle of sustainability, the principle of stability, the principle of balance, the principle of systemic management of conflicts, and the principle of moderate openness. Due to these principles, contrary to crisis management, “conflict-free” development remains accessible for any modern socio-economic systems.

Originality/value

The offered principles allowed determining the landmarks of development of modern socio-economic systems that strive for “conflict-free” character. Based on these principles, it is possible to develop a fundamental platform for studying “conflict-free” socio-economic systems.
