Abstract

Domestic violence is the manifestation of gender and power within intimate and family relationships. How women make sense of their experience of violence may be influenced by the presence or absence of collective hermeneutical resources. In spaces where feminist interpretive resources are not available, women’s authentic experiences tend to be erased, misunderstood, and misrepresented even in institutions that are meant to protect them. This chapter critically examines one such institution – survey research. While surveys show the extent of a social problem, it is essential to examine whether surveys highlight or erase the various ways in which women struggle with violence. This leads to the questions: What hermeneutical resources do women have to make sense of their experience of violence? How do surveys erase or enhance collective understanding of women’s experience of violence? This chapter juxtaposes the findings about women’s attitudes toward domestic violence as measured by the Tamil Nadu National Family Health Survey (NFHS) 2016 with ethnographic data gathered from rural Tamil Nadu, India. In the survey, more than 70% of the women justified domestic violence against women. In contrast, analysis of ethnographic data revealed that women rarely justified violence but rather struggled with violence in three ways – subverting violence, calibrating violence, and collaborating against violence. Where there were organizing structures, such as a union, women resorted to collaborative action. Thus, surveys that measure women’s attitudes toward domestic violence as static mind-sets erase how consciousness is an outcome of political organizing that provides marginalized groups with liberational interpretive resources.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to portray the systematic study of hybrid nanofluid with particle shape effect on significant heat transfer enhancement. The steady flow of hybrid nanoliquid in a microchannel with the aid of porous medium has been considered. The dispersion of copper and Al2O3 in water is taken as hybrid mixture. The impact of thermal radiation, slip length and convective conditions on flow and thermal features are examined numerically.

Design/methodology/approach

The modelled equations are made dimensionless by means of nondimensional entities. The solutions are computed numerically by the implementation of Runge–Kutta-based shooting technique. The results depict that the shape of hybrid mixtures plays a significant role in convective heat transfer. Relevant results on flow velocity, temperature, Nusselt number and friction factor for various physical constraints have been perused. The obtained outcomes are displayed graphically.

Findings

The acquired results depict that Nusselt number augments with Eckert number and solid volume fraction of hybrid nanoparticles, which has a vibrant role in enriching the heat transfer coefficient. Also, it is emphasized that the Nusselt number is larger for blade-shaped nanoparticle compared to other shapes.

Originality/value

The analysis of individual effect of thermal radiation, Joule heating, viscous dissipation and magnetic field on the flow of Cu and Al2O3 hybrid nanofluid through microchannel has vivacious role in augmenting heat transmission. Along with this, the impact of porous medium, shape factor, slip and convective peripheral conditions are also emphasized.

Abstract

Purpose

Thermal features of hybrid nanoliquid consist of Cu–Ti, CuO–TiO2 and C71500–Ti6Al4V/H2O as hybrid mixtures of nano-sized particles in a base fluid through a microchannel are inspected. In this study, flow model of Darcy–Forchheimer is hired to examine the flow of hybrid composition.

Design/methodology/approach

The equations which delineate the physical occurrence of the flow are resolved via Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg scheme united through shooting procedure.

Findings

It is established that flow velocity of hybrid nano composition satisfies the identity U_(CuO-TiO2/water)>U_(Cu–Ti/water)>U_(C71500–Ti6Al4V/water).

Originality/value

Hybrid nanofluid flow of Cu–Ti, CuO–TiO2 and C71500–Ti6Al4V/H2O hybrid mixtures in a base fluid through a microchannel are inspected.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to focus on the steady state flow of nanoliquid through microchannel with the aid of internal heat source and different shapes of nanoparticle. The influence of MoS2 and TiO2 particles of nano size on flow and thermal fields is examined. The governing equations are modelled and then solved numerically. The obtained physical model is nondimensionalized using dimensionless quantities. The nondimensional equations are treated with numerical scheme. The outcome of the current work is presented graphically. Diverse substantial quantities such as entropy generation, Bejan number and Nusselt number for distinct parameters are depicted through graphs. The result established that nanoparticle of blade shape acquires larger thermal conductivity. Entropy analysis is carried out to explore the impact of various parameters such as nanoparticle volume fraction, magnetic parameter, radiation parameter and heat source parameter.

Design/methodology/approach

The resultant boundary value problem is converted into initial value problem using shooting scheme. Then the flow model is resolved using Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg-Fourth-Fifth order technique.

Findings

It is emphasized that entropy generation for the fluid satisfies N(ζ)(TiO2−water) > N(ζ)(MoS2−water). In addition to this, it is emphasized that N(ζ)sphere > N(ζ)brick > N(ζ)cylinder > N(ζ)platelet > N(ζ)blade. Also, it is obtained that blade-shaped nanoparticle has higher thermal conductivity for both MoS2 and TiO2.

Originality/value

Shape effects on Molybdenum disulphide and TiO2 nanoparticle in a microchannel with heat source is examined. The analysis of entropy shows that N(ζ)(TiO2−water) > N(ζ)(MoS2−water).

Purpose

The influence of radiation on nanoliquid flow through a vertical microchannel in the presence of heat source is examined. This study aims to investigate the efficiency of multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) considering water and engine oil as base fluid.

Design/methodology/approach

Nondimensional variables are used to obtain the dimensionless physical model. The solutions are computed numerically via Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg integration scheme.

Findings

It is established that (knf/kf)Lamina > (knf/kf)Column > (knf/kf)Tetrahedron > (knf/kf)Hexahedron > (knf/kf)Sphere.

Originality/value

Thermal conductivity of MWCNT is analyzed using different models. Also, it is remarked that Xue model exhibits higher thermal conductivity for MWCNT compared to Maxwell model, Yu-Choi model and Hamilton-Crosser model.

Abstract

Purpose

3D food printing technology is an emerging smart technology, which because of its inbuilt capabilities, has the potential to support a sustainable supply chain and environmental quality management. This new technology needs a supportive ecosystem, and thus, this paper identifies and models the enablers for adopting 3D printing technology toward a sustainable food supply chain.

Design/methodology/approach

The enablers were identified through an extensive literature review and verified by domain experts. The identified enablers were modelled through the hybrid total interpretive structural modelling approach (TISM) and the decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) approach.

Findings

It emerged that stakeholders need technical know-how about the 3D printing technology, well supported by a legal framework for clear intellectual property rights ownership. Also, the industry players must have focused and clear strategic planning, considering the need for sustainable supply chains. Moreover, required product innovation as per customer needs may enhance the stakeholders' readiness to adopt this technology.

Practical implications

The framework proposed in this research provides managers with a hierarchy and categorization of adoption enablers which will help them adopt 3D food printing technology and improve environmental quality.

Originality/value

This research offers a framework for modelling the enablers for 3D food printing to develop a sustainable food supply chain using the TISM and DEMATEL techniques.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to address the magnetohydrodynamic boundary layer flow of hybrid mixture across a stretching surface under the influence of electric field.

Design/methodology/approach

The local similarity transformations are implemented to reformulate the governing partial differential equations into coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations of higher order. The numerical solutions are obtained for the simplified governing equations with the aid of finite difference technique.

Findings

The velocity, temperature and entropy generation are examined thoroughly for the effects of different budding parameters related to present analysis by means of graphs. It is obtained that owing to the effect of magnetic field along with slip factor, the fluid motion slowdown. However, the flow velocity enhances for the rising estimations of an electric field which tends to resolve sticky effects.

Originality/value

The three-dimensional plots are drawn to understand the nature of physical quantities. To ensure the precision, the obtained solutions are compared with the existing one for certain specific conditions. A good concurrence is observed between the proposed results and previously recorded outcomes.

Abstract

India's agri-food industry is rapidly expanding to keep up with the country's growing population. With the help of the fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0), modernization is creating a new revolution in the agri-food sector. Its applications in the food supply chain as a supply chain 4.0 (SC 4.0) have made it convenient to deliver products efficiently from farms to consumers. The various technologies such as the internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), big data analytics and blockchain, etc., have impacted emerging supply chains. But many challenges are perceived by stakeholders toward the adoption of SC 4.0 technologies in India. The authors identified the challenges of adopting SC 4.0 for the agri-food sector and used the Total Interpretive Structural Modeling (TISM) tool to analyze those challenges. Based on literature research, nine major issues were diagnosed and then simulated using expert opinion. Primary data were also gathered with the help of a questionnaire to identify the status of acceptance level of these technologies. This study highlights the importance of government support, availability of sources of funds, customer orientation toward food safety, the commitment of management toward modernization, aware and well trained and motivated employees are a few of the major factors impacting the adoption of SC 4.0 technologies.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to identify and analyse the interactions among drivers of anti-food waste behaviour at the consumer level. By understanding the mutual interactions among the drivers, an effort is made to identify the most driving and most dependent drivers through the total interpretive structural modelling (TISM) approach. Modelling offers inputs to propose focused interventions for reinforcing the identified drivers of anti-food waste consumer behaviour using the theoretical lens of social practices theory.

Design/methodology/approach

A proposed model of factors affecting anti-food waste behaviour is arrived at to suggest the most effective anti-food waste behavioural interventions. The factors were identified through an extensive literature search. A hierarchical structure of identified factors has been developed using TISM and MICMAC analysis through expert opinion. Focused marketing strategies towards promoting the identified factors for encouraging anti-food waste behaviour were suggested further.

Findings

This study identifies nine drivers based on extensive literature review, brainstorming and expert opinion. The TISM hierarchical model portrays the most important and least important drivers of household anti-food waste behaviour. It establishes that fundamental knowledge and socio-cultural norms are the most critical factors to drive the consumers. Marketers can focus on designing effective interventions to enhance the essential knowledge of the consumers and orient the socio-cultural norms towards anti-food waste behaviour.

Practical implications

This study offers implications for practitioners, policymakers and cause-driven marketing campaigns targeting anti-food waste behaviour. It provides an indicative list of critical factors relevant to household food waste behaviour, which can be used to drive effective marketing campaigns to nudge anti-food waste behaviours.

Originality/value

The proposed food waste behaviour management model was developed through modelling technique (TISM) and Cross-Impact Matrix Multiplication Applied to Classification (MICMAC) analysis, and relating them to marketing interventions is a novel effort in the food waste domain.

Abstract

Purpose

Fully developed Casson fluid flow through vertical microchannel is deliberated in the presence of thermal radiation. The two predominant features of micro scale phenomenon such as velocity slip and temperature jump are considered. The paper aims to discuss this issue.

Design/methodology/approach

The governing equations of the physical phenomenon are solved using Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg fourth fifth order method.

Findings

The outcome of the present work is discussed through graphs. This computation shows that entropy generation rate decreases with enhancing wall ambient temperature difference ratio and fluid wall interaction parameter. Also, it is found that Bejan number is fully retarded with rise in fluid wall interaction parameter. Enhancement in heat transfer or Nusselt number is achieved by increasing the wall ambient temperature ratio and fluid wall interaction parameter.

Originality/value

Casson liquid flow through microchannel is analyzed by considering temperature jump and velocity slip. This computation shows that entropy generation rate decreases with enhancing wall ambient temperature difference ratio.
