Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to find approximate solutions for a general class of fractional order boundary value problems that arise in engineering applications.

Design/methodology/approach

A newly developed semi-analytical scheme will be applied to find approximate solutions for fractional order boundary value problems. The technique is regarded as an extension of the well-established variation iteration method, which was originally proposed for initial value problems, to cover a class of boundary value problems.

Findings

It has been demonstrated that the method yields approximations that are extremely accurate and have uniform distributions of error throughout their domain. The numerical examples confirm the method’s validity and relatively fast convergence.

Originality/value

The generalized variational iteration method that is presented in this study is a novel strategy that can handle fractional boundary value problem more effectively than the classical variational iteration method, which was designed for initial value problems.

Abstract

It has become accepted, almost as an article of faith in the tourism industry, that a major option, open to both large cities and traditional resorts which wish to maintain or increase their tourism earnings, is the generation of large scale conference tourism through the construction of large convention or congress centres. Implicit in this assumption is a belief that large scale conventions will continue to occupy an important place in the tourism industry.

Abstract

Hotelry and Tourism can be considered as synonymous especially when looked at in small‐state, developing‐country terms, in that, in these small economies, without tourism, there can be no hotels and without hotels, nos tourism. Of course this is evident in both developing and developed countries that are dependent on tourism for their economic wellbeing, but it is certainly more marked in the former, especially the island state, where, as it were, hotels were and are still constructed dependent on the fact that tourism already exists in the country and the country has the potential for tourism growth. In other words the rationale for hotel development is based on the state of the tourism product in the developing territory, and this is usually dependent on outside marketing forces from the developed nations, as there is little or no domestic tourism in these small countries to merit the growth of the hotel plant. Therefore, the growth and potential of the industry is dictated usually by countries to the north and their influence on the culture and the habits of the developing host nation (usually to their south) is oftentimes enormous.

Abstract

The calculation of quasistationary magnetic fields and electrostatic fields of several objects is presented in the paper. In the range of the magnetic fields of coils and transformer systems parallelepiped calculation regions are assumed. In the range of electrostatic fields analysis of the field in tanks of different shape storing inflammable liquids was undertaken. Fast subroutines using finite differences [FDM] to calculate the field were employed. These subroutines are based on the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT).

Abstract

Explains that efficient service delivery can often present a problem for marketers due to the nature of the services. Summarizes the two general methods already suggested for improving the efficiency of service delivery – technological and humanistic. Discusses managerial guidelines for the implementation of these approaches to service delivery in several service industries, based on two service classification schemes.
