Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to identify the modes of digital content creation for digital libraries and discuss the associated copyright issues with the types of digital content.
Design/methodology/approach
Prevalent copyright laws in India in the context of digital content have been studied and issues related to specific types of digital content have been discussed.
Findings
In addition to two known types of digital content, namely born digital and turned digital, a third type, gained digital has been delineated. It is found that extant copyright laws, particularly in India, allow scope for forming opinions with regard to digital content thereby giving room for insecurity for digital content creators.
Research limitations/implications
Copyright laws in the context of World Intellectual Property Organization and India only have been discussed.
Practical implications
The paper will be useful to digital content creators and digital library managers/administrators to understand copyright issues relevant to the digital library.
Originality/value
The classification of digital libraries based on content as has been delineated in this paper is an original work and has reported for the first time. The linking of digital content with the copyright issues makes it useful.

The purpose of this research is to identify and evaluate the collections within digital libraries and repositories in India available in the public domain.
Design/methodology/approach
The digital libraries and repositories were identified through a study of the literature, as well as internet searching and browsing. The resulting digital libraries and repositories were explored to study their collections.
Findings
Use of open source software especially for the creation of institutional repositories is found to be common. However, major digital library initiatives such as the Digital Library of India use custom‐made software. The collection size in most digital libraries and repositories is in a few hundreds.
Practical implications
The paper highlights the state of digital libraries and repositories in India in late 2007.
Originality/value
The paper is the first of its kind that attempts to identify and evaluate digital libraries and repositories in India. It also gives a comprehensive listing of digital libraries and institutional repositories in India available in the public domain.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to explore and map the intellectual structure of biofuel research.
Design/methodology/approach
The study attempts to present the structure of biofuel research through document co‐citation patterns of core references. Document co‐citation analysis was performed using the Web of Science of the Thomson‐ISI database. A sample of 26 cited references was identified and the co‐citation frequencies were analyzed and represented them systematically within groups of similar researched topics.
Findings
The study shows the co‐citation analysis method suitable for depicting structure of biofuel research in document clusters by performing multivariate analysis: cluster analysis, factor analysis, multidimensional scaling and network analysis.
Research limitations/implications
The study is limited to research articles and co‐citation data for the first author only. For the co‐citation analysis, the cited references rather than the cited authors were used as the units for analysis.
Practical implications
Co‐citational analysis using multivariate tools provides a useful technique to explore and document the development of the field supplementing the insights normally available from the routine co‐citational analysis.
Originality/value
Specialties in biofuel research are identified and this may provide a valuable building block for future research.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to describe the development of the Indian National Union Catalogue for Scientific Serials (NUCSSI).
Design/methodology/approach
The stages in the development of the national union catalogue and software used for database design and development with different computer systems are discussed. The integration of the database with an e‐mail service for routeing of library/user request information is also described.
Findings
It was found that NUCSSI is an ideal access tool and is indispensable in supporting document supply. Regular updating of the database is enhanced with the online access granted to the participating libraries via the internet.
Practical implications
Desktop connectivity to the NUCSSI database through the internet has made it easy to find and obtain a journal/article of interest. User‐friendly interface and powerful search enable easy and improved access to locate a particular journal and its availability in various libraries free of cost. It provides a decentralized document supply system for India.
Originality/value
This article is of significance to librarians, information specialists in India and the international serials community.

Purpose
The study has been undertaken with the purpose of finding out the growth and characteristics of digital library literature.
Design/methodology/approach
Over 1,000 articles for the period 1998‐2004 were collected from LISA Plus and were analyzed to study authorship patterns, authors' productivity and prominent contributors, language‐wise and year‐wise distribution of articles, country‐wise distribution of journals, core journals in the subject area, and indexing term frequency.
Findings
Some of the important findings are that most articles (61 percent) are single‐authored; author productivity is not in agreement with Lotka's Law, except in one case where number of articles is three; the maximum number of articles were published in 2003 with English being the most productive language; maximum articles were published in the journal D‐lib Magazine; distribution of articles nearly follows Bradford's Law; and USA ranked first for maximum number of journals.
Originality/value
The paper is relevant to those interested in bibliometrics and provides a comprehensive overview of authorship in the library and information science community.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the new application of a performance index (p‐index), extending its use to libraries for measuring and evaluating library circulation statistics in terms of quality and quantity of library books usage by subjects.
Design/methodology/approach
The study uses NISCAIR library circulation data and computes p‐index as well as h‐index for comparing usage in different subjects.
Findings
The results indicate that a two dimensional map of quality vs quantity of transactions can be used for better understanding and evaluation of library usage.
Research limitations/implications
The h‐ and p‐indices and the quality‐quantity maps can be used as a benchmark for monitoring library performance in addition to finding out high value areas in the library collection, high value users, and high value books.
Practical implications
The paper is able to supplement the insights normally available from routine statistical analysis of circulation data.
Originality/value
This study may help in providing knowledge/insights in building up collections.

Purpose
The main aim of this study is to review different aspects of Industry 5.0 (I5.0) along with Kaizen measures to foster this novel aspect of industrial sustainability. The study makes a comprehensive study to explore the implementation status of I5.0 in industries, key technologies, adoption level in different nations and barriers to I5.0 adoption together with mitigation actions.
Design/methodology/approach
To do a systematic study of the literature, the authors have used preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis (PRISMA) methodology to extract articles related to the field of the study.
Findings
It has been found that academic literature on the I5.0 is continuously growing as the wheel of time is running. Most of the studies on I5.0 are conceptual-based, and manufacturing and medical industries are the flag bearer in the adoption of this novel aspect. Further, due to I5.0's infancy, many organizations face difficulty to adopt the same due to financial burden, resistive nature, a well-designed standard for cyber-physical systems (CPS) and an effective mechanism for human–robot collaboration. Further studies also provide avenues for future research in terms of the identification of collaborative mechanisms between machines and wells, the establishment of different standards for comparison and the development of I5.0-enabled models for different industrial domains.
Originality/value
The study is the first of its kind that reviews different facets of I5.0in conjunction with Kaizen's measures and application areas and provides avenues for future research to improve an organization's environmental and social sustainability.
