Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of e-recruitment practices on e-recruitment outcomes in Russian companies.

Design/methodology/approach

This study uses the quantitative approach based on a survey of a sample encompassing 449 companies in Russia.

Findings

E-recruitment practices are positively related to e-recruitment outcomes. However, e-recruitment usage does not mediate the relationship between e-recruitment practices and e-recruitment outcomes.

Research limitations/implications

The extent to which the findings of this research can be generalized is constrained by a single country and cross-sectional data.

Originality/value

The current study is the first to present the e-recruitment practices, including both internet-based ones and internal technology-enabled solutions, within the overall context of human resource management (HRM) digitalization in the companies and specific HRM outcomes.

Abstract

Purpose

Based on generational theory, this research studies the preferences of French young graduates from Generation Y for job and organizational attributes of a future employer. The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the debate on the inter- vs intragenerational differences and discusses the common stereotype of an intragroup homogeneity within the Generation Y.

Design/methodology/approach

Reviewing generation and job search literature, the paper update graduates’ preferences for job and organizational attributes in their initial job search by using conjoint analysis, a rarely used methodology in human resource management (HRM). To test the intragroup homogeneity and to overcome methodological difficulties inherent in examining differences within a generational cohort, the paper operationalized a homogeneous sample (n=592) composed of people of the same age, career stage, cohort and nationality.

Findings

The authors demonstrate that, even if on the whole young graduates from Generation Y prefer job security and a relaxed work atmosphere, their preferences are heterogeneous.

Research limitations/implications

This research leads to discuss the relevance of the concept of Generation Y for recruitment. Additional research is needed to improve the external validity of this study which must be reproduced in other contexts and with different populations.

Practical implications

The results provide useful information to assist HR managers and recruitment specialists in improving the efficiency of the recruitment process and in considering the relevant segmentation criteria for recruitment.

Originality/value

Using an original methodology, conjoint analysis, this paper focusses on the heterogeneity of Generation Y and its consequences in terms of HRM.

Abstract

Purpose

From managerial perspective, the authors investigate the boundary and effective conditions of recruitment practices (e.g. job advertising and manager recruiting behavior) on recruitment outcomes that include employer image and organizational commitment in the context of recruitment practices. Drawing on signaling theory, the authors argue that using recruitment practices is generally more effective for creating employer image and organizational commitment.

Design/methodology/approach

The authors received a final sample of 213 from the employees of beverage industry. In doing so, statistical softwares SPSS (v.23) for data screening and SmartPLS (v.3.3.3) were used for hypothesis testing.

Findings

Using survey-based study, the study finds (1) that recruitment practices including job advertising and managers' recruiting behavior can be superior to developing employer image that positively can value the organizational commitment (2) The study identifies a significant role of employer image that is mediating between recruitment practices and post recruitment outcome (e.g. organization commitment).

Practical implications

The outcomes of the study provide valuable directions for human resource (HR) managers in national and multinational public organizations. The article offers recruitment strategies/practices to enhance employer image and organizational commitment.

Originality/value

The novelty of the study is the unique research framework, as the current paper is among the pioneers to empirically analyze the effect of recruitment practices on post-recruitment outcome testing the mediating relationship of employer image between job advertising organizational commitment and between managing recruiting behavior and organizational commitment.

Abstract

Purpose

The research examines the role of Smart HRM 4.0 in developing dynamic capabilities and its impact on human resources and organizational performance.

Design/methodology/approach

The authors used a grounded theory approach and conducted interviews of 39 senior HR managers from IT, ITeS, consulting, services and E-commerce companies through a semi-structured questionnaire. The authors analyzed the interview data with NVivo 8.0 to identify the themes related to the dynamic capabilities to Smart 4.0 HR practices.

Findings

The study provides a conceptual framework for organizational performance using dynamic capabilities built due to Smart HRM 4.0 practices. Organizations use Smart HRM 4.0 to develop dynamic capabilities: building learning and knowledge sharing capability and integration, reconfiguration capabilities. Further, the dynamic capabilities contribute to HR and organizational performance.

Originality/value

This study divulges the role of Smart HRM 4.0 practices in developing dynamic capabilities in Indian firms. The study provides an appealing insight into the structural link between Smart HRM 4.0 and dynamic capabilities, which are yet to be explored. This study extends the Smart HRM 4.0 and dynamic capabilities concepts for senior HR professionals and contributes to human resource management and organizational performance literature.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to explore the tradeoff between person-job (PJ) fit and person-organization (PO) fit by new job seekers across different recruitment stages and the influence on their job choice decisions.

Design/methodology/approach

A time-lapse research design was adopted with data from a survey over a two-year period of college students majoring in hospitality and tourism management at different recruitment stages (i.e. generating applications, maintaining applicant status and making a job choice).

Findings

The results suggest that PJ fit has a stronger influence on job choice decisions than PO fit, and both fit perceptions are consistent across recruitment stages. However, the difference between the two fit perceptions may be affected by direct interactions with recruiters at career fairs and interviews.

Practical implications

When recruiters start interacting with job seekers during the initial stage of the recruitment process, the recruiters are more likely to receive a favorable job choice decision from these potential applicants. Additionally, recruiters should create a positive perception of hiring companies and jobs through career fairs or other face-to-face communications to keep job seekers interested and maintain their applicant status throughout the recruitment stages.

Originality/value

This paper explores important factors that influence job seekers’ job choice decisions throughout the recruitment process with three main stages, which provides a more holistic overview of the transition of job seekers’ fit perceptions of the job and the organization. It also provides empirical support for current understanding of recruitment issues in the hospitality industry.

Abstract

Purpose

This study proposes and tests a conceptual model hypothesizing that perceived high-involvement human resource practices (HIHRPs) influence organizational members’ positive word-of-mouth (PWOM) intentions, via the mediating mechanisms of perceived organizational support (POS) and positive affect (PA).

Design/methodology/approach

Questionnaire data were collected from 194 working individuals and were analyzed by using structural equation modeling and the SPSS PROCESS macro.

Findings

The findings of this study are as follows: perceived HIHRPs had a significant positive influence on organizational members’ POS and PA; POS and PA were each significantly and positively related to PWOM intentions; the relation between HIHRPs and PWOM intentions was significantly mediated by POS and significantly mediated by PA; when included in one model, POS and PA together fully mediated the relationship between HIHRPs and PWOM intentions.

Originality/value

This study is one of the first to develop and empirically test a model identifying the HR determinants of personnel’s PWOM intentions, an area overlooked within the human resource management and organizational behavior literature. The study is also the first to examine the mediating effects of POS and PA on the relationship between HIHRPs and PWOM intentions.

Abstract

Purpose

The paper aims to explore the effect of stakeholder pressure on the disclosure of key performance indicators (KPIs) and the patterns of this disclosure in large public interest entities (PIEs).

Design/methodology/approach

The study is based on the content analysis of the disclosures provided by 169 large (PIEs) operating in Poland in 2019. The data was hand-collected from the companies’ non-financial statements. The research hypotheses were empirically tested with the use of linear regression.

Findings

The explanation for the disclosure of KPIs can be found in stakeholder theory, operationalized by stakeholder pressure linked to industry. In line with the expectations, business-related KPIs are disclosed by companies operating in industries with high pressure from investors, environment-related KPIs are presented by companies operating in environmentally sensitive industries and companies operating in industries with high pressure from employees disclose society-related KPIs. According to the results of the study, reporting on employee-related KPIs is accompanied by environmental and social KPI disclosures.

Originality/value

The study contributes to the literature on corporate non-financial disclosures as it provides new insights into non-financial KPI disclosures in a new and relatively unexplored institutional setting established by the Directive 2014/95/EU. While researchers recognize the stakeholders’ environmental and social concerns, there is nevertheless a lack of understanding of their implications for KPIs in measuring social practice. The research fills that gap by addressing the specific impact of different stakeholder groups on the disclosure of KPIs.

Abstract

Purpose

Service employees in subordinate service roles are crucial for operational efficiency and service quality. However, the stressful nature of these roles, inappropriate hire selection, and the proliferation of job boards have created massive recruitment problems for HR departments. The purpose of this paper is to highlights the growing costs of recruiting the right candidates for service roles while offering an alternative approach to recruitment that is more efficient and effective than the traditional approach.

Design/methodology/approach

The study offers empirical evidence of five instances in which the use of psychometric sifting procedures reduced recruitment costs, while improving the quality of the resultant hires.

Findings

By standing the traditional recruitment process “on its head” and using psychometric tests at the start of the selection process, the recruitment process can be significantly improved. Such tests efficiently weed out unsuitable candidates before they even enter the recruitment process, leaving a smaller, better-qualified pool for possible recruitment.

Practical implications

Firms can safely use the psychometric sifts to select applicants according to their operational efficiency, customer orientation, and overall performance. This paper illustrates the use of both traditional questionnaire measures and situational judgment tests to remove unsuitable applicants at the start of the selection process. A real-life case study suggests that such an approach increases the hiring success rate from 6:1 to 2:1. In the opening of a new supermarket by a UK group, this process saved 73,000 hours of managers’ time, representing $1.8 million savings in opening costs.

Originality/value

The paper offers a viable cost-saving alternative to a growing problem for HR departments in service firms and provides directions for further research.

Purpose

This study examines the adoption of information and communication technologies (ICT) for e-recruitment and its impacts on public value outcomes.

Design/methodology/approach

A survey was conducted with 213 public sector employees in the federal civil service using a questionnaire to test a conceptual model integrating the Technology Acceptance Model, Media Richness Theory and Public Value Theory using PLS-SEM analysis.

Findings

Results validate significant positive relationships between ICT adoption, social media use for e-recruitment and public value creation. Internet self-efficacy positively moderates public value outcomes.

Research limitations/implications

While this study makes valuable contributions, avenues remain to further expand generalizability, strengthen validity and incorporate additional institutional factors in the framework.

Practical implications

The study provides insights to guide policies and interventions aimed at improving ICT adoption success and public value gains from e-government investments in developing countries.

Originality/value

The research makes key contributions by operationalizing and empirically assessing the public value impacts of e-government innovations and examining adoption issues in an understudied developing country context.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to contribute to the knowledge on the opportunities and risks in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in recruitment and selection by exploring the perspectives of recruitment professionals in a multicultural multinational organisation.

Design/methodology/approach

A qualitative approach was used in this exploratory study. Face-to-face, semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with ten professional recruiters who worked for a multinational corporation.

Findings

The findings revealed that AI facilitates the effective performance of routine tasks through automation. However, the adoption of AI technology in recruitment and selection is also fraught with risks that engender fear and distrust among recruiters. The effective adoption of AI can improve recruitment strategies. However, cynicism exists because of the fears of job losses to automation, even though the participants thought that their jobs would continue to exist because recruiters should always be humans.

Originality/value

This paper provides a unique exploration of the opportunities and risks in the adoption of AI for the recruitment and selection function in human resource management. The benefits are the delegation of routine tasks to AI and the confirmation of the crucial role of professional recruiters.
