Abstract

Purpose

The current study aims to investigate the various consumption motives (hedonic, gain and normative) responsible for strengthening consumers' intentions toward purchase behavior for electric vehicle (EV).

Design/methodology/approach

A total of 411 valid survey responses were collected using a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling to investigate the empirical fit of the hypothesized framework.

Findings

The results of structural equation modeling revealed that all three motives were positively correlated with purchase intentions for EV. Hedonic motives were found to have the strongest influence on purchase intentions. In addition, gain and normative motives were also found to be significant predictors of EV buying behavior. Further analysis revealed a positive correlation between gain, normative and hedonic motives. Moreover, personal moral standards seem to have a significant and positive impact on the positive emotions associated with buying EV.

Practical implications

The results of current research can be useful for marketers while designing promotional strategies for all the high-involvement green products. Marketing professionals and policymakers can use these results to build effective marketing strategies for EVs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions resulting from personal vehicle use.

Originality/value

To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first study in the South Asian region that explores consumers' motives for EV purchase behavior. Further, this is among a few studies, which have attempted to investigate the impact of hedonic, gain and normative motives on green purchase behavior in the context of high involvement green products.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims at developing an improved method, based on binary search algorithm (BSA) for the steady-state analysis of self-excited induction generators (SEIGs), which are increasingly used in wind energy electric conversion systems. The BSA is also compared with linear search algorithm (LSA) to bring out the merits of BSA over LSA.

Design/methodology/approach

All the parameters of SEIG, including the varying core loss of the machine, have been considered to ensure accuracy in the predetermined performance values of the set up. The nodal admittance method has been adopted to simplify the equivalent circuit of the generator and load. The logic and steps involved in the formulation of the complete procedure have been illustrated using elaborate flowcharts.

Findings

The proposed approach is validated by the experimental results, obtained on a three-phase 240 V, 5.0 A, 2.0 kW SEIG, which closely match with the corresponding predicted performance values. The analysis is shown to be easy to implement with reduced computation time.

Originality/value

A novel improved and simplified technique has been formulated for estimating the per unit frequency (a), magnetizing reactance (Xm) and core loss resistance (Rm) of the SEIG using the nodal admittance of its equivalent circuit. The accuracy of the predetermined performance is enhanced by considering the SEIG’s varying core loss. Only simple MATLAB programming has been used for adopting the algorithms.

Abstract

Purpose

The aim of this paper states that total productive maintenance (TPM) is an improvement tool which employs the effective utilization of employees in order to enhance the reliability of the equipment in consideration.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper identifies and evaluates the factors accountable for the adoption of TPM methodology in manufacturing organizations. Twenty-four factors affecting the TPM implementation are explored and categorized into five significant categories. Afterwards, these identified TPM factors have been evaluated by using a most popular Multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) approach namely fuzzy pivot pairwise relative criteria importance assessment (F-PIPRECIA).

Findings

In this paper, through application of F-PIPRECIA, “Behavioural factor” is ranked first while “Financial factor” the last. Considering the sub-factors, “Top management support and commitment” is ranked first while “Effective use of performance indices” is ranked the last. A further sensitivity analysis indicates the factors that need higher level of attention.

Practical implications

The result of current research work may be exploited by the top administration of manufacturing enterprises for assessing their TPM adoption status and to recognize the frail links of TPM application and improve accordingly. Moreover, significant factors of TPM can be identified and deploy them successfully in their implementation procedure.

Originality/value

The conclusion obtained from this research enables the management to clearly understand the significance of each considered factor on the adoption of TPM in the organization and hence, provides effective utilization of resources.

Abstract

Purpose

Solid, liquid and e-waste pose serious health hazards, environmental pollution and contribute to climate change. To address these issues of solid waste management (SWM), amidst many policy decisions, the Government of India roped in several institutions, including self-help groups (SHGs), into the Swachh Bharat Movement (Clean India Mission). This study aims to illustrate the significant contributions of SHG’s in tackling SWM, particularly the plastic waste menace in India, while fostering socio-economic values and sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Design/methodology/approach

Using a from-the-field approach, qualitative data were collected from 30 members of three SHGs to understand their significant contributions in mitigating plastic waste.

Findings

This research identifies three major themes: economic value creation, social value creation and SDGs via collection and reduction of plastic waste landfills. Furthermore, several related subthemes are identified.

Practical implications

This study offers pragmatic solutions to deal with plastic waste at personal, community, institutional and governmental levels. Moreover, it recommends engaging SHGs to promote sustainable waste management practices such as segregating wastes at source, regulating plastic bag usage, advocating behavioural change towards waste generation and protecting the environment.

Originality/value

The authors consider a proven case of SHG’s contribution to protect the environment and emphasize the need to involve more such groups in waste management practices.

Purpose

This research intends to develop a conceptual framework investigating how IT-related resources, namely IT advancement (ITAD) and IT alignment (ITAG), utilization relates to digital marketing capabilities (DMCs) development, which in turn improves business performance (BP), as well as how digital orientation (DO) and technological turbulence (TT) moderate these effects.

Design/methodology/approach

This study employs an online email-based survey technique to collect primary cross-sectional data from 388 small and medium-sized enterprises operating in India. Moderated hierarchical regression was used to validate the hypothesized relationships.

Findings

ITAD and ITAG are significant drivers of DMCs, and these capabilities positively influence BP. Moreover, DO strengthens the positive effect of ITAD and ITAG on DMCs, with ITAD having a higher impact than ITAG. Similarly, DMCs have a greater positive effect on BP in an environment with high TT.

Originality/value

Despite increased interest in the information technology resources required for the development of DMCs, less attention has been paid to the relationship between ITAD and ITAG resources and DMCs. In addition, few researchers investigate the moderating influence of DO on the relationship between IT-related resources and DMCs, as well as TT on the association between DMCs and BP.
