Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the convergence performance of Bessel beamformer, based on the design steps of least mean square (LMS) algorithm, can be named as Bessel LMS (BLMS) algorithm. Its performance is compared in adaptive environment with LMS in terms of two important performance parameters, namely; convergence and mean square error. The proposed BLMS algorithm is implemented on digital signal processor along with antenna array to make it smart in wireless sensor networks.
Design/methodology/approach
Convergence analysis is theoretically developed and verified through MatLab Software.
Findings
Theoretical model is verified through simulation and its results are shown in the provided table.
Originality/value
The theoretical model can obtain validation from well-known result of Wiener filter theory through principle of orthogonality.

Abstract
Purpose
The aim of this investigation is to make the Bessel beamformer fully automatic when it is combined with Root MUSIC (MUltiple SIgnal Classification) and is based on the array processing in the application of beamforming and Direction of Arrival (DOA) algorithm for source position. The concept is analyzed for modified Bessel beamformer with Root MUSIC to form a non-blind array processing technique which is then used to focus a beam towards a desired user and place nulls towards interferers for capacity improvement.
Design/methodology/approach
The idea is manipulated for modified Bessel beamformer with Root MUSIC relies on MATLAB software with the goal to obtain high efficiency in terms of signal recovery, directive gain by minimizing MSE and place nulls towards interferers.
Findings
The finding of the analysis is presented in adaptive environment and provided in the tables. The paper shows that the presented method leads to superior results and can be used as a better alternative in many practical applications to avoid operator involvement.
Research limitations/implications
The adaptive processes described in the paper are still limited to simulation due to non availability of real system for testing.
Practical implications
The paper can be extended to a next level by implementing the proposed algorithms in the real time environment using FPGA technology.
Originality/value
This is our original work that can offer scientific contribution to signal processing community and may provide better results as an automatic beamformer.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to design and analyze the performance of live model of Bessel beamformer for thorough comprehension of beamforming in adaptive environment and compared with live model of least mean square (LMS) in terms of gain and mean square error (MSE). It presents the principal elements of communication system. The performance of designed live model is tested for its efficiency in terms of signal recovery, directive gain by minimizing MSE using the “wavrecord” function to bring live audio data in WAV format into the MATLAB workspace. These adaptive techniques are illustrated by appropriate examples.
Design/methodology/approach
The proposed algorithm framework relies on MATLAB software with the goal to obtain high efficiency in terms of signal recovery, directive gain by minimizing MSE using the “wavrecord” function to bring live audio data in WAV format. It is assumed that this audio signal is only the message or the baseband signal received by the computer. Here the authors consider computer (laptop) as a base station containing adaptive signal processing algorithm and source (mobile phone) as a desired user, so the experiment setup is designed for uplink application (user to base station) to differentiate between desired signal, multipath and interfering signals as well as to calculate their directions of arrival.
Findings
The presented adaptive live model is reliable, robust and lead to a substantial reduction of MSE, signal recovery in comparison with the LMS technique. The paper contains experimental data. Obtained results are presented clearly and the conclusion comes directly from the presented experimental data. The paper shows that the presented method leads to superior results in comparison with the popular LMS method and can be used as a better alternative in many practical applications.
Research limitations/implications
The adaptive processes described in the paper are still limited to simulation. It is because of the non-availability of real system for testing, therefore chosen research approach that is platform of MATLAB is opted for simulation. Therefore, researchers are encouraged to test the proposed algorithms on real system if possible.
Practical implications
The paper contains experimental data. The paper's impact on the society is acceptable. These implications are consistent with the findings and the conclusions of the paper. However, there is a need to extend this paper to a next level by implementing the proposed algorithms in the real time environment using FPGA technology.
Social implications
This research will improve the signal quality of wireless cellular system by increasing capacity and will reduce the total cost of the system so that cost toward subscribers be decreased.
Originality/value
The live model presented in this paper is shown to provide better results. It is the original work and can provide scientific contribution to signal processing community.

Abstract
Purpose
The paper seeks to investigate the impacts of government's incentives and internal aspects (i.e. firms' ethics and firms' attitudes) on the implementation of sustainability-oriented technology (SOT) among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Tonga. Those aspects are imperative to examine as numerous enterprises in developing nations possess insufficient assets that suspend applying innovations, specifically SOT incorporated with enterprise management. Thus, it is unavoidable for an intermediary to intervene in technology implementation, and developing the more effective implementation process is reckoned. Meanwhile, governments possess the assets and authority to motivate the SOT implementation extensively. Therefore, this paper assesses governmental factors as influencing drivers for realizing cost-effective and well-organized implementation.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper employs the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) technique to assess the information collected from 266 Tongan SMEs.
Findings
The outcomes indicate that government's policy and subsidies positively and significantly shape firms' ethics and attitudes regarding SOT implementation in Tonga.
Research limitations/implications
The research analyzes the SOT implementation in a single country of Tonga; thus, the findings cannot be generalized to other emerging countries. Besides, this study selects SMEs as the sample; hence, it cannot be used to explain the behaviors of large companies.
Originality/value
The research is the first attempt to assess such impacts in the SMEs of a South Pacific nation.

Abstract
Purpose
Following the planned behaviour theory, the aim of the paper is to analyse the role played by brand attachment, brand characteristics and congruence in enhancing brand attitude while leading to revisit intentions and word-of-mouth (WOM) in the restaurant sector.
Design/methodology/approach
The study is based on the quantitative method and considered 464 questionnaires fulfilled by customers of restaurants. The data were explored employing the partial least square–structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM).
Findings
This study expands the literature about WOM and revisit intentions. The paper states that brand attitude positively influenced revisit intentions and WOM. Besides, findings highlighted that analysed concepts were positively correlated and that they played an important role in impacting revisit intentions and WOM, apart from one factor: social self-congruity, which was not significantly related to brand attitude.
Practical implications
The results of this paper show practitioners how to develop suitable strategies that set the bases for developing customer loyalty and repeat business. By putting into practice these suggestions in the restaurant sector, brands can easily build up their attitude and boost a positive WOM and the intention to revisit.
Originality/value
The study offers a conceptual framework to explore the significance of several factors, including revisit intentions and WOM. In practice, taking into account the proposed framework, it is suggested that restaurant managers should assess these two items using several factors including congruence, brand characteristics and brand attachment.

Abstract
Purpose
Although work-related antecedents of abusive supervision are well-known, knowledge on the cross-domain antecedents of this destructive leadership behavior is scarce. Accordingly, this study aims to investigate off-the-job supervisors’ after-work experiences that may influence their work behavior. The authors explore how and when a supervisor’s poor recovery experiences lead to abusive supervisory behaviors through a negative start-of-workday mood for high vs low supervisor sleep quality.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors conducted a single-source, three-phase field study (N = 422) to test the proposed moderated mediation model for participants from a large telecommunications company located in Anhui province, People’s Republic of China.
Findings
Poor recovery experiences in the supervisor’s personal life can spill over to their work domain and provoke abusive supervisory behavior through the mediating effect of a negative start-of-workday mood. Moreover, a supervisor’s good night’s sleep (i.e. first-stage moderator) serves as a key mitigating factor to diminish the negative start-of-workday mood resulting from a lack of relaxation, mastery experiences and control experiences (except for the lack of psychological detachment from work) and lessens abusive supervision.
Originality/value
This study contributes to the literature examining off-the-job events to understand the antecedents of abusive supervision that are beyond organizations’ control but significantly influence workplace behaviors, showing that not all antecedents of abusive supervision exist in the workplace; some are transferred from the home domain through nonvisible moods. Finally, the inclusion of sleep quality as a first-stage moderator provides insights on preventing abusive supervision caused by nonwork-related events. This adds a unique dimension to the abusive supervision literature by highlighting factors in the home domain that can prevent negative spillovers to the work domain. The authors conclude with some theoretical and practical implications for researchers and practitioners.

The question of civilian supremacy over managing state affairs has been revisiting Pakistan time and again; the case is the same these days. Assuming its strategic location at the crossroads of Middle East-Central South Asia, the country has a lot of potential not only to prosper and progress, but it can play a pivotal role in restoring peace and stability in the region.
Pakistan's civilian leadership has mostly supported the concept of peaceful coexistence with all neighboring countries, but the theory of animosity propagated by Pakistan's army with its neighbor, especially India, has kept the world's sixth most populous nation in a state of war ever since its inception. This chapter discuses the perpetual conflict between the civil-military approaches and how it is effecting regional peace.
