Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate an effectiveness of applying a number of the new methods, proposed in the parametric control theory for testing macroeconomic models for the possibility of their practical application.

Design/methodology/approach

Approaches of system analysis on building and calibrating the mathematical models; provisions of the parametric control theory for both numerical testing of the calibrated models for the possibility of their practical application and solving the parametric control problems.

Findings

First, one global computable general equilibrium model (CGE model) is built and calibrated. Second, in solving the problem of testing this model for the possibility of its practical application the effectiveness of applying two developed numerical algorithms is demonstrated. These algorithms are for estimating stability indicators and estimating stability (in the sense of the theory of smooth mappings stability) of mappings defined by the model. Third, on the base of the tested CGE model there are given the solution results for a number of the parametric control problems aimed at economic growth and decrease of economic disparities of regions.

Originality/value

By the example of the developed CGE model, it is demonstrated an approach of the parametric control theory for testing macroeconomic models for the possibility of their practical application.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to present a comprehensive review of the fundamental concepts and terminologies pertaining to different types of aluminium metal matrix composites, their joining techniques and challenges, friction stir welding (FSW) process, post-welding characterizations and basic control theory of FSW, followed by the discussions on the research reports in these areas.

Design/methodology/approach

Joining of aluminium metal matrix composites (Al-MMC) poses many challenges. These materials have their demanding applications in versatile domains, and hence it is essential to understand their weldability and material characteristics. FSW is a feasible choice for joining of Al-MMC over the fusion welding because of the formation of narrow heat affected zone and minimizing the formation of intermetallic compounds at weld interface. The goal in FSW is to generate enough thermal energy by friction between the workpiece and rotating tool. Heat energy is generated by mechanical interaction because of the difference in velocity between the workpiece and rotating tool. In the present work, a detailed survey is done on the above topics and an organised conceptual context is presented. A complete discussion on significance of FSW process parameters, control schemes, parameter optimization and weld quality monitoring are presented, along with the analysis on relation between the interdependent parameters.

Findings

Results from the study present the research gaps in the FSW studies for joining of the aluminium-based metal matrix composites, and they highlight further scope of studies pertaining to this domain.

Originality/value

It is observed that the survey done on FSW of Al-MMCs and their control theory give an insight into the fundamental concepts pertaining to this research area to enhance interdisciplinary technology exploration.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to offer the theory of a parametrical regulation of market economy development, and the results of the theory development and usage.

Design/methodology/approach

Theoretical results of the abstract have been obtained by way of applying the theory of ordinary differential equations, geometrical methods in variation tasks and the theory of dynamic systems. These results have been used for solving a number of practical tasks.

Findings

The market economy development parametrical regulation theory structure has been offered. The approach to parametrical regulation of a nonlinear dynamic system's development has been suggested. An assumption about the existence of solution to the task of calculus of variations on the choice of the optimum laws of parametrical regulation within the given finite set of algorithms has been set forward. An assumption about the conditions sufficient for the existence of an extremal's bifurcation point of the task of calculus of variations on the choice of the optimum laws of parametrical regulation within the given finite set of algorithms is presented, formulated and proved. Theory application samples have been provided.

Research limitations/implications

Future papers would be focused on studies of rigidness of other mathematic models of economic systems.

Practical implications

The research findings could be applied to the choice and realization of an effective budget and tax as well as monetary and loan state policy.

Originality/value

The market economy development parametrical regulation theory has been offered for consideration for the first time.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to present some results of the development of parametrical regulation theory elements for computable general equilibrium models (CGE models), taking into consideration their peculiarities.

Design/methodology/approach

Theoretical results have been obtained by means of applying geometrical methods for variational problems and methods of the theory of discrete dynamic systems. These results have been used for solving concrete practical problems.

Findings

The authors proved a statement on the existence of solution for variational calculus problem on the choice of the optimal laws of parametrical regulation within the given finite set of algorithms for discrete dynamic systems. A statement has been proved on sufficient conditions for the existence of an extremal's bifurcation point of variational calculus problem on the choice of the optimum laws of parametrical regulation within the given finite set of algorithms for discrete dynamic systems. Optimal laws of parametrical regulation (on the level of one and two parameters) of economic system evolution on the basis of the examined mathematical model have been defined. The bifurcation line was constructed for the given area of uncontrolled parameter values.

Practical implications

The research results can be applied for the choice and realization of an effective state budget and tax policy.

Originality/value

The paper elaborates the elements of parametrical regulation theory of economic system development on the basis of CGE models and shows the effectiveness of parametrical regulation theory application on the example of one CGE model.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to examine the attitude control problem of a certain and big flexible satellite with unmodeled dynamics and unknown bounded disturbances and control input saturation; and to present a design method of robust adaptive controllers (RACs).

Design/methodology/approach

First, using the Lyapunov stability theory, it is shown that the proposed adaptive controller can guarantee the stability of the nonlinear system. Then, the parameters regulation method of the RAC is introduced. Finally, an RAC is designed for the object satellite model consisted of all the error‐source models.

Findings

The simulation results are compared with other results that are derived by using the typical PID controller. It is proved that the designed RAC has some properties of quickly response, high steady‐state precision and strong robustness.

Originality/value

The paper is of value in presenting a design method of RACs aiming at the object satellite with uncertainties and control input saturation.

Abstract

Purpose

Advances in digital design tools enable exploration and generation of dynamic building facades. However, some processes are formally prescribed and manually driven to only visualize the design concepts. The purpose of this paper is to present a proactive framework for integrating parametric design thinking, paying particular attention to building facade patterning.

Design/methodology/approach

This work developed the PatternGen© add-on in Autodesk® Revit which utilizes an analytical image data (AID) overlay approach as a data source to dynamically pattern the building facade. The add-on was used to manipulate the placement rules of curtain panels on facade surface geometry. As means of validating this research model, a real-life design project has been chosen to illustrate the practical application of this approach. Feedback and observations from a short end-user questionnaire assessed qualitatively the facade patterning and panelization approach.

Findings

The proposed merge (or overlay) of AID images can be used as a parametric thinking method rather than just theory to generate and articulate dynamic facade design. The facade panelization responds to an AID that resembles design-performance data (e.g. solar exposure, interior privacy importance and aesthetics).

Originality/value

This work identifies a form of parametric thinking defined as the expression of geometrical relationships and its configuration dependent on the AID pixel Red Green Blue color source values. In this type of thinking, it explores the impact of the digital process and parametric thinking utility when driven by an AID overlay. The framework highlighted the practical application of AID pixel approach within a digital process to benefit both designers and computational tools developer on emerging design innovations.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to investigate empirically whether Islamic securities enhance economic growth in the Southeast Asian region based on the endogenous growth theory using the non-parametric analysis.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper applies panel quantile regression with Markov chain Monte Carlo optimization as an optimal non-parametric approach to investigate the effect of Islamic securities on economic growth starting from 2013Q4 to 2019Q4 in Southeast Asia. Total issued Islamic securities holdings are employed as a measure for Islamic securities, while the gross domestic product is employed as a proxy for economic growth. The sample includes all working Islamic financial foundations in the top progressive Islamic securities markets' countries of Southeast Asia (Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam).

Findings

The findings confirm that the increase of issuing Islamic securities in Islamic capital markets of Southeast Asia is increasing the levels of economic growth, reflecting the weighty role of the Islamic capital market development as an active contributor to economic growth.

Practical implications

This research would fill the literature gap by exploring Islamic securities–economic growth nexus in Southeast Asia using a robust non-parametric approach based on the endogenous growth theory for better estimation results. The findings of this review serve as a roadmap for financial analysts, policymakers and decision makers to stimulate the Islamic securities markets as another source of finance which can promote the economic growth.

Originality/value

This research is the first that investigates empirically the Islamic securities–economic growth nexus in Southeast Asia using a new empirical investigation built on the non-parametric analysis and outlined within the theoretical context of the endogenous growth model to gain robust evidence about this nexus.
