Abstract

Purpose

Taking into account the resource-based view and the dynamic capabilities theory, the main aim of this research is to analyse how the intensification of the internationalisation process entails a solution for the problems generated by an economic crisis in the national market. To do so, we establish two specific goals. The first is to find out the mediator value of the dynamic marketing capability in the relation between the strategy of increasing markets and performance. The second is to determine if there exist differences in this relation between firms of incremental internationalisation and firms of early internationalisation, called international new ventures (INV).

Design/methodology/approach

The study provides information on these problems via testing hypotheses of a conceptual model, which uses a sample of 145 Spanish export firms. The data analysis employs a structural equation modelling (SEM) through partial least squares (PLS) as a statistical instrument.

Findings

The results lead to two main conclusions: (1) in times of economic crisis, the dynamic marketing capability plays a mediator role between the increase of the number of international markets served and the international and national results; (2) the dynamic marketing capabilities bring about learning effects in the internationalisation process, which affect incremental firms and INV differently.

Originality/value

This work explores, in times of crisis, how internationalisation becomes a way out for firms to increase the levels of demand and improve their general performance. Furthermore, it also analyses the mediator role of the dynamic marketing capability in the relation between the increase of the level of internationalisation and the firm performance. In this relation, it establishes that there are significant differences in the results obtained between incremental internationalisation firms and INV, determining the notable strategic differences between the two management models when facing periods of economic recession.

Abstract

Purpose

The aim of this study is to examine the behavioral intention (BI) to adopt the Coinbase Wallet by Spanish users.

Design/methodology/approach

A survey was administered to individuals residing in Spain between March and April 2021. There were 301 questionnaires analyzed. This research applies a new predictive model based on technology acceptance model (TAM) 2, the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model, the theory of perceived risk and the commitment trust theory. A mixed partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM)/fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) methodology was employed for the modeling and data analysis.

Findings

The results showed that all the variables proposed have a direct and positive influence on the intention to use a Coinbase Wallet. The findings present clear directions for traders, investors and academics focused on improving their understanding of the characteristics of these markets.

Originality/value

First, this study addresses important concerns relating to the adoption of crypto-wallets during the global pandemic. Second, this research contributes to the existing literature by adding electronic word of mouth (e-WOM), trust, web quality and perceived risk as new drivers of the intention to use the Coinbase Wallet, providing unique and innovative insights. Finally, the study offers a solid methodological contribution by integrating linear (PLS) and nonlinear (fsQCA) techniques, showing that both methodologies provide a better understanding of the problem and a more detailed awareness of the patterns of antecedent factors.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of the research is to analyze the factors that determine the intention of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to adopt the Metaverse. For this purpose, the analysis of the effort expectancy and performance expectancy of the constructs in relation to business satisfaction is proposed.

Design/methodology/approach

The analysis was performed on a sample of 182 Spanish SMEs in the technology sector, using a PLS-SEM approach for development. For the confirmation of the model and its results, an analysis with PLSpredict was performed, obtaining a high predictive capacity of the model.

Findings

After the analysis of the model proposed in this research, it is recorded that the valuation of the effort to be made and the possible performance expected by the companies does not directly determine the intention to use immersive technology in their strategic behavior. Instead, the results obtained indicate that business satisfaction will involve obtaining information, reducing uncertainty and analyzing the competition necessary for approaching this new virtual environment.

Originality/value

The study represents one of the first approaches to the intention of business behavior in the development of performance strategies within Metaverse systems. So far, the literature has approached immersive systems from perspectives close to consumer behavior, but the study of strategic business behavior has been left aside due to the high degree of experimentalism of this field of study and its scientific approach. The present study aims to contribute to the knowledge of the factors involved in the intention to use the Metaverse by SMEs interested in this field.
